This area includes a series of houses built in the early 1900s for international diplomats. They are fascinating self contained museums. Some, such as the American house, are displayed as they may have been used at that time. Other represent cultural icons of the respective country. Bills house is a display of quirky dark and hilarious curiosities. I had a meal at the French house and it was bliss.

神戸どうぶつ王国(Kobe Animal Kingdom)
@juliebyles
A really well laid out animal habitat. Different areas for different regions and climates. Animals mostly run free, with non - intrusive barriers. The plants and animals form a vibrant dynamic landscape, all the animals seem very happy. You can get in with the capybaras and the hippo enjoys coming right up to the glass of his pond and playing with you.

Best visited in the autumn months, under the cover of maple tree-lined routes! That being said, historical towns and onsens can be enjoyed all year round, as the locals typically do too.
