Coffee Shops & Bakeries

Spaniards take their coffee culture very seriously, and apart of that culture is maintaining an atmosphere of extraversion and socializing.

This culture can make it very hard for university students or digital nomads to find a good place to work, so the following list has a mixture of laptop-friendly, and traditional café's to get a real sense of the coffee culture in the city.

And, regardless of whether a café is laptop friendly, you should still always ask if you may use your laptop (Puedo usar mi portátil) out of respect.

Also note that many cafés will also serve alcohol and become very lively bars in the evening.

Plus, there is no wrong time to order a coffee in Spain, so you can get your caffeine fix pretty much any time of the day.

Mansilla is my favorite coffee shop in all of Madrid. The atmosphere is so romantic and cosy- from the pink walls to the checkered floors- it is a place close to my heart. Laptop policy is: no working on weekends, and if you bring a laptop you must work at the antique writing desk in the corner. Get some work done listening to 50's Argentinian love songs and the sweetest owners giving you everything you need.
