Venezia

Each year, million of tourists visit Venice and the vast majority of them will pay too much to eat mediocre food in tourist-traps. Luckily Venice also has a lot of (hidden) great restaurants and most importantly 'Bacari', which is their version of a Spanish Tapas bar. Bacari usually serve a variety of small colourful, budget-friendly dishes which change continuously based on the season (some actually change hour by hour). These small dishes are called 'cicchetti' and are meant to be the perfect companion to a glass of wine or a Spritz. Think of these Bacari as your local neighbourhood bar, and be ready to bend elbow to elbow with the locals. Here are my favorite places to eat, drink, snack and stay in Venice!

Ostaria da Rioba
@sophieminchilli
In a very touristy area, this Osteria has managed to keep its old-school traditional feeling with typical lagoon dishes. Event though it has some outdoor seating by the canal, I much prefer to sit inside where you really can get a sense of the old fashioned interiors and style. The menu has a mixe of both seafood, vegetable and meat dishes

CÃ D'oro alla Vedova
@sophieminchilli
Both a Bacaro and a restaurant, you will notice most of the people sitting down for a meal are tourists, while the locals prefer to stand at the counter and enjoy a glass of wine with small bites. However, I love coming here for a sit down meal because it really is delicious and the atmosphere is truly Venetian. I love their spaghetti alle vongole and spaghetti alla Busara with tomatoes, chili and prawns

Vini da Gigio
@sophieminchilli
Refined traditional restaurant, which has been run by the owner Paolo Lazzari for many years, maintaining the same style and high quality. The atmosphere is old-fashioned, warm and welcoming. This is a place where locals come for a special occasion or Sunday lunch. I love their ravioli stuffed with monkfish and their fried baby squids

L’Osteria di Santa Marina
@sophieminchilli
I stumbled here by chance a few years ago, and have been thinking of this meal ever since. I was attracted by the decor which is old fashioned, and the amazing reviews. They offer both a tasting menu or you can simply order a la carte. I would define the menu as contemporary Venetian cuisine, and would highly recommend opting for the tasting menu. Very nice helpful staff, great wine list, delicious food for a special occasion

Trattoria Antiche Carampane
@sophieminchilli
One of the best seafood restaurants in the city, Antiche Carampane serves delicious and creative dishes thanks to the chef's personal touch and the choice of super fresh ingredients. In the Spring, don't miss out on their fried soft shell crabs!

Corte Sconta
@sophieminchilli
One of Venice's finest restaurants, if the weather is nice I would recommend booking a table int heir small outdoor garden covered in ivy. A little more expensive than other restaurants, be prepared to spend about 80 euros for a nice seafood meal. I love their stuffed squid and Venetian style tuna with polenta. When they are in season, order their artichokes and soft shell crabs
