Innsbruck in 3 days
Famous for being a winter sports destination, Innsbruck is the capital of the Austrian state of Tyrol. However, there's so much more to the city than ski slopes - steeped in stunning Alpine scenery, it's arguably one of the most picturesque cities in Europe.
Getting there
Innsbruck Airport is conveniently located just a 20-minute bus ride away from the city centre. A single bus ticket is only €2.20 (as opposed to €20 in a taxi), so it's a budget-friendly way of getting to your hotel.
Top tip: The approach as you come into land is truly spectacular, so book a window seat if you can to admire the views. Trust me, it's worth the extra money!
Where to stay
I stayed at the Hotel Goldene Krone, which is located in the heart of the city right next to the Triumphpforte (one of the most photographed landmarks in Innsbruck). Rooms are around £66 per night (or €75) and are basic but comfortable. Breakfast is included, which consists of cereal, bread, pastries, yoghurt, various meats, cheese and boiled eggs.
The only caveat is that you can only check in between 3pm and 7pm, and there's nowhere to leave your luggage - however, lockers are available at the train station for €4.
