Get Simit here! We suggest going at around 8 a.m. in order to get the simit right out the oven. Having warm simit is a bit of a heavenly experience. If you want more baked goods, there’s also a ton to choose from here. We also recommend the chocolate-filled pastry that looks like a hybrid of a croissant and morning bun.

There’s baklava stores everywhere in Istanbul and a lot of stores are chains and the baklava choices are nearly identical to one another. We liked this little place on Istiklal Caddesi, the most popular shopping street in all of Istanbul. It’s super easy to pick up a few pieces of baklava to nibble on while you walk.

Get the su böreği (aka water börek) which is literally my favorite food in the entire world. You'll see börek everywhere in the city, so make sure you try it from as many places as possible ;)
