Nicaragua: A comprehensive guide

Nicaragua: A comprehensive guide

During a three month trip exploring Central America, I spent a glorious chunk in the beautiful yet incredibly underrated Nicaragua. This guide highlights all the best bits of this beautiful country's culture; its attractions, cuisine, history and people. The itinerary covers a number of locations and therefore recommend allocating at least 10-14 days to enjoy at leisure. If you have less to work with, then obviously feel free to tailor as it suits.

Parque Acuáticox

Technically a water park equipped with a kids playground, restaurant but also home to the city's promenade, offering a welcoming respite on a summer's day. Once done, you can take a stroll along the colourful tree sculptures ('Árboles de la Vida') on Avenida Bolivar.

DeLaFinca Coffee • Metrocentro
@deleteduser1180
You can't visit one of the world's finest coffee producing regions and not sample the coffee. DelaFinca - Nicaragua's answer to an upmarket Starbucks - serves a number of coffee and food options as well as catering for the lactose intolerant amongst us. Highly recommend!

León, Nicaragua
@deleteduser1180
One of the two well known colonial towns; Leon has at you might expect lots of gorgeous architecture, modern cafes (including a great almond cafe latte!) and a previous home of a number of famous Nicaraguan poets. A great day out from Managua.

Apoyo Lagoon
@deleteduser1180
The lake has a number of small scale resorts on one side where you can grab a drink, some lunch or spend a few days whilst dipping in and out of the fresh water lagoon. A welcome respite on a hot day. Be also sure to check out the nearby pretty town of Santa Catarina where you can grab a souvenir handmade by a local artisan.
