Puffins in Iceland - exact locations

Vacay Katie
Puffins are cute and colourful - no wonder many people come to Iceland to see them live. But despite what some people might think, it’s not that easy to spot them.

Easy:

Vestmannaeyjar
@vacaykatie
The world‘s largest colony of puffins – around 1.1 million return to the island each year. The locals are so used to the puffins being a part of their summers, that each year children walk along the streets looking for baby birds that got confused by the street lights and flown into town instead of out to sea. These babies are kept overnight in the houses of the locals, fed, and then released out to the ocean the next day.

Krísuvíkurberg Cliffs
@vacaykatie
Around 60,000 birds breed here, including fulmars, guillemots, razorbills and kittiwakes. You might be lucky to see puffins too, however the rocky cliffs are not very suitable for the burrows they dig in the ground.
