Trieste is served by Aeroporto di Trieste - Ronchi dei Legionari (TRS) a small airport located in the near town of Ronchi dei Legionari.
The airport is connected to Italian and some European airports.
The fastest and easy way to reach Trieste centre is by train. At Trieste Airport both regional and high-speed trains call. The regional train are the more frequent and cheaper and they take the same train of high-speed train.
Alternatively, you can reach the city centre by bus. To check the schedule you can use the trip planner of TPL TVG, the public bus company.
Aeroporto di Venezia - Marco Polo (VCE)
Venezia - Marco Polo (VCE) airport is farther from Trieste, but it boast a great international connections.
There are no direct bus between Venezia Airport and Trieste, so the better way is to go to Venezia Mestre station and take a local train.

Let's start the tour
Breakfast
One of the most important and oldest café in Trieste: Caffè degli Specchi.
This historical café is located right in the main square and it is the only one of the historic cafés that has lasted during the years.
Morning stroll
Piazza dell'Unità and Molo Audace
After having had a great breakfast at Caffé degli Specchi you can still enjoy the great view of Piazza Unità and admire the beautiful architecture of the palaces that surrounds this square.
Right in front of the city hall, there is a statue that has been sculpted in the 18th century to celebrate the openness of Trieste to the world known in that period. In fact it represents the four continents known: Europe, America, Asia and Africa.
If you want to feel hugged by the sea breeze (or the Bora, the famous strong wind of Trieste), you should walk down the Molo Audace.
Leaving the sea behind, let's head to Piazza della Borsa.
From there continue until passing by the Roman Theatre.
Going uphill you will reach Castello di San Giusto, a 1400 castle.
After your Castle's tour, you can visit Cattedrale di San Giusto Martire, just right beside the castle.
Lunch-time
All this climb and walking will make you hungry, so better full your stomach with some Friulian delicacies. The streets around Piazza Unità are full of nice spot to where to eat.
My two suggestions are:
Evening
After lunch head to Canal Grande.
Look around and admire the architecture of all the buildings.
If you are visiting in Christmas time, you will find the Christmas market here.
And after that visit the Church of Sant'Antonio Nuovo.
Next to the church, there is also an Orthodox church.
Shopping
The area between Canal Grande and Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia is full of artisanal shops and more famous brands shops.
Check Via S. Nicolò or Corso Italia.
End of the tour
This itinerary will allow you to visit the most famous landmarks of Trieste and enjoy your short time in this beautiful city.
As you will see, you can walk easily around the city centre and the cruise ship terminal and train station are easily reachable by foot.
