This is not a complete guide of Trieste, but it includes some tips on how to see the most important spots of Trieste in one day. Arrival

Arriving by airplane

Trieste Airport - Ronchi dei Legionari (TRS)

Trieste is served by Aeroporto di Trieste - Ronchi dei Legionari (TRS) a small airport located in the near town of Ronchi dei Legionari.

The airport is connected to Italian and some European airports.

The fastest and easy way to reach Trieste centre is by train. At Trieste Airport both regional and high-speed trains call. The regional train are the more frequent and cheaper and they take the same train of high-speed train.

To reach the station, exit the terminal and follow the directions. After the long tunnel, overpassing the parking lot, you will arrive at the train station. The train station is very simple, there are no toilets, bar but there are automatic ticket machines.

Alternatively, you can reach the city centre by bus. To check the schedule you can use the trip planner of TPL TVG, the public bus company.

Aeroporto di Venezia - Marco Polo (VCE)

Venezia - Marco Polo (VCE) airport is farther from Trieste, but it boast a great international connections.

There are no direct bus between Venezia Airport and Trieste, so the better way is to go to Venezia Mestre station and take a local train.

Aeroporto di Venezia - Treviso (TSF)

Hub of Ryanair and Wizzair, this small airport is located near Treviso, a city near Venezia. If you are landing at this airport and would like to reach Trieste, the easiest way is to go to Treviso Central train station and take a train to Trieste.

Arriving by Cruise

Trieste it is a port city and there are a lot of cruise ships that call at Trieste.

The passenger terminal is really close to the city centre.

Arriving by Train

The main train station is Trieste Centrale. From here you can get a regional train as well as long-distance and high-speed train. There are also daily train to Slovenia.

Let's start the tour

Breakfast

One of the most important and oldest café in Trieste: Caffè degli Specchi.

This historical café is located right in the main square and it is the only one of the historic cafés that has lasted during the years.

Morning stroll

Piazza dell'Unità and Molo Audace

After having had a great breakfast at Caffé degli Specchi you can still enjoy the great view of Piazza Unità and admire the beautiful architecture of the palaces that surrounds this square.

Right in front of the city hall, there is a statue that has been sculpted in the 18th century to celebrate the openness of Trieste to the world known in that period. In fact it represents the four continents known: Europe, America, Asia and Africa.

If you want to feel hugged by the sea breeze (or the Bora, the famous strong wind of Trieste), you should walk down the Molo Audace.

After your Castle's tour, you can visit Cattedrale di San Giusto Martire, just right beside the castle.

The entrance is free and if you want to have a nice view of Trieste gulf you can pay a small price to go up the bell tower.

Lunch-time

All this climb and walking will make you hungry, so better full your stomach with some Friulian delicacies. The streets around Piazza Unità are full of nice spot to where to eat.

My two suggestions are:

Look around and admire the architecture of all the buildings.

If you are visiting in Christmas time, you will find the Christmas market here.

And after that visit the Church of Sant'Antonio Nuovo.

The area between Canal Grande and Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia is full of artisanal shops and more famous brands shops.

End of the tour

This itinerary will allow you to visit the most famous landmarks of Trieste and enjoy your short time in this beautiful city.

As you will see, you can walk easily around the city centre and the cruise ship terminal and train station are easily reachable by foot.
