Shanghai has quickly become one of my favorite cities in the world. Its vibrant colors, lively atmosphere, and friendly faces make it a place where boredom is impossible. There's always something to do or explore, so I recommend spending at least four days to truly experience everything it has to offer.

If you've explored all that Shanghai has to offer, consider hopping on one of the high-speed trains for a quick 30-minute ride to Suzhou. This historic city is known for its rich heritage, with numerous temples and cultural sites to explore. Situated along a river that winds through the entire city, Suzhou’s charm is most evident in its ancient streets and traditional houses. Take your time strolling through the old town, visit local shops, and enjoy the city's famous gardens, which are truly a highlight.

1. Download Alipay or WeChat: These are the primary payment methods in China, and you'll need an internet connection to use them. There's no need to withdraw cash, as card payments are rarely accepted.

Please note that in this guide, I’m sharing my personal favorite places, activities, and experiences. If you don’t see any recommendations for accommodations or restaurants, it simply means that I wasn’t particularly impressed with the ones we visited.

2. Use Didi for transportation: It's fast, convenient, and affordable. For example, a 45-minute ride from the airport to your hotel might cost around €12.

3. Surveillance is extensive: There are video cameras everywhere, ensuring a high level of security in public spaces.

4. Language barrier: Most people speak little to no English, so be prepared to rely on Google Translate for communication.

7. Always carry your passport: You'll need it for entry into many places, including tourist attractions and hotels, so don't leave it behind when exploring.

5. Cultural differences: You might notice locals frequently spitting or making loud noises, which is common in China

6. Warm and friendly locals: People are incredibly sweet, and many may ask to take a photo with you, especially in less touristy areas.

Beijing, the capital of China, has a distinct atmosphere that feels more controlled and military compared to other cities, though it's still quite charming. Personally, I prefer Shanghai, but Beijing has its own appeal with extensive surveillance and certain streets restricted to foot traffic. I recommend spending at least three full days here: one to explore the Forbidden City, another for the Great Wall, and a third for city sightseeing and shopping. Keep in mind, Beijing is massive, so be prepared for lots of walking and exploration.

Hong Kong is a vibrant blend of East and West, known for its stunning skyline, bustling streets, rich culture, and a unique fusion of modernity and tradition. It's a city where towering skyscrapers meet lush mountains, offering endless energy, shopping, and world-class dining.

Plan to spend more than just a weekend in Hong Kong, as it offers much more than its urban appeal. Beyond the bustling city, you'll find stunning nature and beautiful beaches that are well worth exploring.
