Harajuku / Omotesando Shopping Guide

Harajuku / Omotesando Shopping Guide

Lucy Livin
Everywhere I visited while shopping in the Harajuku / Omotesando area. You can approach it however you want, but I recommend starting on the Omotesando side, working your way through the back streets of Harajuku and then coming into the main touristy stretch.

AMORE Vintage AOYAMA
@lucylivin
The slightly less famous of the AMORE locations (but no less fabulous), this location stocks a variety of Louis Vuitton, Dior (with a section dedicated to John Galliano), Hermes and more. Like a luxury lover's pinterest board IRL, if you just like looking at pretty things it's worth visiting, but in terms of buying this is a serious location for keen collectors.

AMORE Vintage Omotesando
@lucylivin
This store is famous for being essentially a mini Chanel museum - there is every colour of the Chanel bag rainbow here, so if you're a fashion collector and are after something specific, they're likely to have it. They're not known for being bargain prices, but rather having extensive curation of all things Chanel, so keep in mind even though it's secondhand, you're unlikely to find a sneaky steal here.

VINTAGE QOO TOKYO
@lucylivin
While not exactly a hidden gem, this vintage store is worth a stop for the sheer variety and amount available in what looks like a potential set for the next Knives Out movie. Huge variety of designer all moderately priced, from ready to wear to bags to shoes to watches to jewellery, both menswear and womenswear. Feels like the most airconditioned and nicest smelling estate sale - staff are kind too and not overbearing and let you browse at leisure.

BRAND COLLECT ブランドコレクト表参道1号店
@lucylivin
There are a few locations of Brand Collect dotted around, and they tend to be quite small and don't have as extensive curations as other larger stores, but you never know what you might find!

NERDY
@lucylivin
Sporty casual Korean brand famous for having celebs like Taeyeon collaborate on campaigns. Decor is like a 90s/y2k bedroom, with plenty of cute photo ops and cute matching tracksuits to peruse.

Candy Stripper
@lucylivin
I remember reading about this brand in J-Fashion magazines as a teenager and the name sure is memorable. Perhaps a more accessible starting point for those interested in J-Fashion but intimidated by some of the more fringe styles, Candy Stripper is colourful and playful but has some more simple pieces with a bit of Tokyo flair that I think a lot of people would really enjoy, like embroidered denim overalls or sorbet coloured striped polo shirts.

WEGO 1.3.5... 原宿竹下通り店
@lucylivin
Japan's equivalent to an H&M or Forever 21 - affordable trendy fashion, pumping music but also an aircon refuge from the busy Takeshita street. Recommend for adorable accessories, socks and cute gifts.

W C
@lucylivin
Another affordable clothing hotspot on Takeshita street, but a little more feminine and girly than WEGO's more general vibe. Upstairs is decorated like a 90s sleepover dream, and don't miss the cute barbie wallpaper in the changeroom! Also notable, the ground floor stocks Punyus - a playful and colourful Japanese brand with extended sizing, produced by famous comedian Naomi Watanabe. I believe this is also a sister brand or under the umbrella of WC as they tend to have some item overlap.

CASANOVA vintage 離れ
@lucylivin
This is one for serious Hypebeasts - the range (while not my lane) was impressive and I love the store design, tatami mat floors and murakami decor. This one from impression seemed to be a lot of more colourful maximalist menswear, like Supreme, Gucci and louder LV options, but have a selection of accessories as well.

CASANOVA vintage
@lucylivin
My favourite Casanova location - previous patrons include Kim Kardashian, G-Dragon and the girls from Blackpink, so you know they've got goods. I feel this store had the best balance between more colourful fun pieces while also having some more practical versatile ones, so if you can only make limited stops in your hunt for second hand goodies then I would definitely put this one as a contender. Surprisingly I felt the pricing here was actually pretty decent, considering the high profile clientele. Had a great range of pieces from lower end to higher end, and staff are friendly and chatty.

lilLilly TOKYO
@lucylivin
One of my favourite J-Fashion brands, lilLilly is a fixture in fashion magazines and has a variety of girly pieces that manage to straddle being frilly and feminine without being too frou frou (I mean, some would maybe be too frou frou but it depends on your personal style). Colour palette ranges from delectable pastels to navy and black for those who prefer their princess-y vibes on the darker side.

RAGTAG
@lucylivin
Huge selection of second hand and vintage, nestled in one of the slightly less (but still kind of) busy streets in Harajuku. Huge variety of brands and a little something for everyone here. They have other locations but this is definitely one of the larger more bougie ones that I visited on my last trip.

@cosme TOKYO
@lucylivin
The flagship @cosme store in Tokyo, has amazing displays to show you what are the top selling beauty products in every category, so basically the physical manifestation of your shopping query "what beauty products should I buy in japan". Can be a bit intense and busy, so try going earlier in the day or on weekdays, or using it as a browsing destination to help you decide what to buy and then get it at a local drugstore (potentially cheaper, very likely less busy).

Laforet Harajuku
@lucylivin
I always try to make a point to visit Laforet if I'm in Tokyo, because walking through the floors is basically a whistle stop tour of what's happening in J-Fashion. Recent additions I noticed was the ground floor seems to operate like a boutique featuring smaller brands and niche products, with the other floors having stores for a variety of different aesthetics, with some mainstays that have been around since the first time I visited as well as trendier inclusions to stay, well, fashionable.

Extras

Kaiten Sushi Ginza Onodera
@lucylivin
Ate here spontaneously for lunch between filming and oh my god... so delicious, a little pricier than your average quick sushi spot but not full fancy schmancy prices and has a casual but nice vibe. The quality was incredible, I think the best sushi I ate on my trip,

Eggs 'n Things
@lucylivin
Cute Hawaiian diner, with all kinds of breakfast goodies. There are lots of pancake places in Tokyo which are delicious but also very busy and can sometimes have hours of wait time - and this place is pretty big so you can usually get seated really quickly. Get some pancakes (either a plain stack or a flavoured one) and be sure to try with the flavoured syrups provided. Portion sizes are generous and tasty, with western breakfast favourites like eggs (name implies) bacon, potatoes, avocado and more, which can be pricey and hard to come by in Japan. A note for caffeine enthusiasts - coffee is not great (just machine / diner vibe) so don't be fooled by the barista coffees on the menu.

NUMBER SUGAR
@lucylivin
Adorable boutique specialising in French style flavoured caramels wrapped in paper. Can buy individually or purchase a box - makes for a super chic gift for friends and family or fuel to be kept in bags and pockets for further shopping.

Kiddy Land
@lucylivin
Whether you're healing your inner child, have an actual child or have a penchant for cute things, Kiddy Land is a great destination for all kinds of cute character merchandise. All your Sanrio mainstays are there as well as various other cuties vying for your attention, I always get a kick out of the Otomatone display.

CAFE REISSUE
@lucylivin
Famous for their latte art - a little pricier, but it's ~art~ and you can request what you'd like your caffeinated cutie to be (I got a 3D Rilakkuma, it was adorable but painful to consume but I wanted my cappucino).
