AMPELMANN Shop Unter den Linden
@alessiocavallino
Ampelmann is the beloved pedestrian traffic light figure from East Berlin, created in 1961 by traffic psychologist Karl Peglau. Designed to be a friendly and clear signal for pedestrians, it became a nostalgic symbol of East Germany (GDR). After German reunification, Ampelmann was nearly replaced but was saved by public demand. Today, it’s a cultural icon of Berlin, with shops selling fun souvenirs featuring its charming design.

Second Day

On our second day, we wanted to explore beyond Berlin, so we spent the morning in Potsdam, famous for its stunning palaces and natural beauty.

It’s also historically significant as the place where, in 1945, the leaders of the USSR, the US, and the UK decided on the division of Germany after its surrender.

We ended the day with a beer at Pirates Berlin and enjoyed the sunset by the river.
