Shanghai North Bund Walking Route
Starting Point
I recommend to start the tour at Tiantong Road station of Line 12, you can have a short walk alongside the Suzhou creek, which is a captivating riverside district, blending historical charm with modern urban development.
The first iconic building you will see is Shanghai Postal Museum, which was originally the Shanghai General Post Office, an important historical building constructed in the 1920s.
Just a short walk further, you will find a bridge before the steel Waibaidu Bridge. Though unremarkable at first glance, this spot is a favorite among local photographers for capturing stunning views of Lujiazui.
Cross the Zhapulu Bridge, we'll arrive the Rock Bund area, with many interesting pop-ups and stores. The architecture here may give you a feeling of being in New York.
After making a full loop around the Rockbund area, return to the steel bridge you saw earlier, the Waibaidu Bridge.
Across the Waibaidu Bridge, there is a historical building on your left.
After crossing the Waibaidu Bridge, take a right at the first intersection, then follow the small path to the riverside platform on your right.
* I cannot find the exact name of the riverside platform on the map, Yangzijiang Road is the closet location.
👇This intriguing building marks the start of the North Bund Riverside Green Space. In front of it, close to the shore, there’s a Manner Coffee where you can take a break and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
At the end of North Bund Green Land, you can take a ferry at Gongpinglu Pier across the river to Lujiazui. You will arrive at Taitongzhan Pier.
*The last ferry is 21:30 at night
After disembarking, the ferry pier is not far from the Oriental Pearl Tower. If you haven’t visited yet, it’s worth taking a look. Alternatively, you can just walk along the riverbank to the Museum of Art Pudong. Its open-air rooftop is THE BEST spot in Shanghai to enjoy the night view. You can also opt not to enter the museum and simply enjoy the view from the viewing platform on the riverside.
Finally, you can walk to the Shanghai Tower, which is the highest building of China.
