When to go?
Tenerife is a great place to visit all year around. You can enjoy the sun even in the middle of winter, however the weather might be occasionaly a bit unpredictable.
Where to stay?
Since you are going to travel by bus, I recommend to consider Puerto de la Cruz as your base for the whole staying. It's well communicated city in the northern part of the island. The climate is more tropical and humid than in the southern part of the island. In the summer, it should be mild and pleasant, however in the winter it's more likely to be cloudy and rainy than the south.

Alternatively, you can stay in Santa Cruz. It is also well communicated by buses, however the capital city of the island is not as cosy and green as Puerto de la Cruz.
