This is a small walking bridge and a rest stop to get some leg stretch. Nearby, there are local stores that sell some local produce. You can try out a fruit called - Tarap! Sometimes, there's a cultural performance near the bridge for your enjoyment.

Depending on your group size and budget, I recommend choosing a cozy little villa that will provide a comfortable night's rest. As there's not much to do at night, you'll likely be tucking in early.

To close off the night, get some important rest as you will definitely need it!

Your guide will offer you the necessary guidance on what to do next. Follow the instructions while gathering at the park HQ. Please remember to ensure that the park tags provided to you stay with you at all times! Once you are ready, you will be guided to your starting point.

Usually you will start your journey here at around 0830 - 0900 AM.

Timpohon Gate, Kundasang, Sabah

It is a very straightforward hike with very visible paths. You will pass by several huts or in local language called "Pondok", this is usually where hikers take a quick break before continuing the journey.

After a few hours of hike, you will arrive at the midpoint.

Sutera Sanctuary Lodges at Laban Rata
@jasn
It is a nice and cozy hostel for all hikers alike. However, the hot water is limited throughout the day and not available at night. You will have your dinner, early morning supper and lunch here.

Take a good rest and mingle with other hikers to share some moments and conversation. As you will definitely need a well rested night to climb to the summit the next morning.

Day 3 - The sunrise

Around 0130 AM, you should be getting ready and have a nice warm breakfast at the lodge before beginning your hiking journey.

Between 0200 AM to 0530 AM, you have to quickly reach the last checkpoint of the hike. As that is the golden period where they allowed you to reach the summit. If you failed to arrive there before 0530 AM (Please check the time again when you are there), you will be denied entry.

Sayat-Sayat Hut
@jasn
The last checkpoint of the entire hiking journey. You need to pass this checkpoint to proceed to the summit.

From the last checkpoint, you are very close to the peak. But depending on the weather, you may face some challenges. This is the weather during my climb back in September 2022.

Note: Depending on who's in your hiking group and weather condition, the guide will have to make decision to either stop the hike and return back to Laban Rata or continue. As safety is the upmost priorities.

Mt Kinabalu
@jasn
The final point of the Mt. Kinabalu hiking adventure, where you will see amazing view and a strong satisfaction of achievement.

If you have extra time to spare and more energy in you. Take up the challenge to continue forward to the peak. Which is optional, of course!

But keep in mind that, you will only have a short time to spare at the peak. As on the same day, you will need to climb back down back to HQ. For our tour, we have to reach back before 0700 PM to catch a ride back to our hotel in Kota Kinabalu city.

In between, you take your time and have a nice lunch at Laban Rata. But, do keep in mind that depending on the season you are travelling, the weather can change easily!

We stayed our last night at a very nice hotel.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jasn
Travel: Not a want, but a need Travel is essential for the human spirit. It expands our horizons, teaches us about different cultures, and helps us to learn and grow. But while travel is fun, the planning part can be daunting. That's where I come in. I love helping my friends plan their trips. I take the time to understand their needs, requirements, and preferences, and I create a detailed itinerary that caters to all of them. I use a variety of tools, from Notion to simple spreadsheets, to break down the details of the trip, including cost, activities, accommodation, and precautions. I know that it's impossible to cater to everyone's liking, but I've had years of experience planning trips, and I've learned a lot along the way (And, I am still learning!). I've also had my fair share of failed plans, but I've always managed to turn things around. If you're looking for someone to help you plan your next trip, I'm your guy. I'll take care of all the details, so you can relax and enjoy your vacation. All I get in return is more experience and some compensation for my work (Maybe, in the process making some new connections!)
