Shhhh don't tell...
As much as we love our friendly tourist, we also love to keep our local spots special. So if you are visiting any of these spots, be respectful and enjoy!
Letter Streets
If you haven't noticed yet, each street in Newport has a number. And every few streets has a lifeguard tower on the beach, with that number on it. For the locals, this is how we identify which beach spot to go to.
For example if someone was to say, "Meet me at 56th" any local would know exactly where to go. 56th street is a great surfing spot in Newport Beach, this is common knowledge for anyone who is from here. Locals know each street by number and what they can expect for that beach.
Once you go further down on the Peninsula these numbers change into letters. From A-M and after M is the wedge, which is a very famous surf break. When you go past E street it becomes very quiet, and this is why the locals tend to hang here. Less tourist, more beach, free and abundant parking and often the shore break is big here.
Today I am going to send you to L street. Literally just look for the street that is L, park on it and walk to the beach. You will notice a small sign on the side walk that as for you to keep the beach clean, please respect the residents by cleaning up any trash!
