Why now?

Until recently, AlUla was closed because of incompatibility with some Islamic beliefs. AlUla has been open for a few years now and it's at the perfect level: enough infrastructure to enjoy the historic significance and beautiful nature, just before Four Seasons and Marriott open up (which is planned!). This year they had only 100'000 visitors, next year they expect a 50% increase and I'm sure this trend will continue because it such a magical and unique place. Go now, don't wait.

Before You Go

Events

Look up events happening at Maraya and in AlUla as they host sporting events, art festivals and concerts. Perhaps you can plan your trip around an artist you'd love to see like Lauryn Hill or James Blunt (who we hung out with at the pool!).

Visa

Make sure you get an e-visa because although it says you can get visa on arrival, you'll be let through immigration last if you do so. I recommend you contact your Saudi or local embassy to get the official visa website and requirements as it can be hard to navigate and depending on your nationality, you may need to use an official agency.
