Few travellers will actually get to visit Namibia, but those who do will find somewhere quite unlike anywhere else on planet earth. This guide is perfect for:
đ First time travellers heading to Namibia
â Those flying in and out of Windhoek OR those doing a longer trip through Southern Africa
đ° Budget, midrange or luxury travellers (we cover all three styles!)
đ Those doing a road trip with their own car or planning to hire a car and self-drive
In this guide, we cover:
đ˛Know before you gos such as currency, tipping and connectivity
đ A full route for your trip, which can be adjusted to suit what's best for you!
đ Recommendations of hotels and best accommodation, as well as alternative options for camping
Don't forget to save the guide to refer back to later, and let us know what you think!

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
đľ Currency: Namibian Dollar (NAD)
The Namibian Dollar is interchangeable with South African Rand, which means you can pay for everything with ZAR or NAD wherever you go
đ Getting around:
Driving in Namibia is easy and stress-free. You can hire a car or use a guided tour (which usually involves a lot of driving). Public transport is possible but tricky for some of the National Parks, which are away from typical bus routes and train stations. This route assumes you have a car, and we recommend hiring a sturdy vehicle that can cope well with off-roading.
đ°Tipping:
Tipping guides and service providers (such as restaurants) is customary in Namibia. Around 10-12% is standard or around $10 a day for a tour guide.

Available for hire
I'm Emma and I am the founder of That Travel and the Sustainable Travel Podcast. I'm a responsible and regenerative travel advocate, as well as an ex-travel agent (I worked as an agent for 8 years in sales and sales management)
My speciality areas are:
â¨Tanzania
â¨South Africa (including eSwatini and Lesotho)
â¨Egypt
â¨Namibia
â¨Madagascar
But I have also travelled extensively through most parts of the world and love to do so by immersing myself in local culture and travelling 'like a local' as much as I possibly can.
I truly feel that sustainable and regenerative tourism is the antidote to overtourism, and that by choosing carefully where we spend our money, so that we support local environments, local people and local economies, we can change travel for the better and make it a force for good!
What can you hire me for?
⨠Sustainable travel guides (including eco hotel and local guest house suggestions, local restaurants, 'give back'/non profit initiatives and overlanding routes)
â¨Travel consultations to help you understand a destination better - I hope to help you get to the heart of where you're travelling, learn local cultures and be a better traveller!
Or if you're looking for something else:
â¨Sustainable and responsible travel writing - guides to help others plan!
â¨Group trip planning - as a sales agent with a high success rate at sales, I can help you plan and sell your trip
If you don't see what you're looking for, drop me a message and I'm sure I can help đ¤
