Experience the Heart of Rio: A Day in the Vibrant Favela do Vidigal
I had the privilege of living in Vidigal for a year, and it gave me a deep connection to one of the most vibrant and welcoming communities in Rio de Janeiro.
Nestled on the slopes of the Dois Irmãos mountain, Vidigal isn’t just a neighborhood — it’s a living, breathing piece of Rio’s soul, offering incredible views, rich culture, and an authentic experience you won’t find in the tourist districts.
1. Start with a Local Breakfast at Café e Mar:
Café e Mar - Bistrô no Vidigal
@jasminebalind
This local favorite serves some of the best traditional Brazilian breakfast options like pão de queijo and tapioca. The café has a spectacular view of the ocean, making it a perfect spot to kick off your Vidigal adventure. Don’t forget to bring cash or use PIX (a popular payment method in Brazil). If you don’t have a Brazilian bank account, you can download Nubank as a tourist hack, create an account, and easily make PIX transfers.
