Malta is a beautiful destination to visit all year round. Although I'd suggest visiting in Spring & Autumn, I've had lovely sunny days in winter too.
Useful Information
Money
We use Euro 💶 Lots of places accept card but you'll find some stalls or services that only accept cash.
Sockets
In Malta the power plug sockets are of type G. The standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. (Same as the British).
Weather
We have around 300 days of sunshine in Malta ☀️ It can also be quite rainy and humid. Hopefully you'll have good weather for your trip. 🥰
It's good to note that the houses in Malta aren't well insulated and heating/cooling options are minimal (A/C, fan, gas heater) depending what your accommodation has available. So you might still feel a little cold inside in the winter & warm in the summer.
Transport - Driving
Maltese drive on the left side of the road. It is totally doable to drive in Malta but some areas get really high amounts of traffic & it is difficult to find parking in the centre. (You could utilise the Park & Ride system).
Transport - Bus
You can download the Tal-Linja app for Maltese bus time table (google maps works too). The bus is generally €2 for 2 hours, but there are also day tickets online.
❗️During peak season it's very common for busses to arrive late, full, or not on at scheduled time.
Transport - Cabs
Malta uses Bolt, Uber, and Ecabs - they're quite affordable if you're staying in the centre or are more than 1 person.
Transport - Ferries
You can find the timetables online. There are ferry routes to the following destinations:
Birgu to/from Valletta
Valletta to/from Sliema
Tickets & Schedule for both ferry services:
Valletta to/from Gozo
This used to be called the Gozo Fast Ferry (45min long) as it can be caught from the centre.
Cirkewwa to/from Gozo
This ferry accommodates passengers & cars. You pay upon return.
Comino
Cirkewwa/Gozo -> Comino -> Cirkewwa/Gozo
You can get to Comino & back from both Malta & Gozo. If you are going to Gozo, you can incorporate Comino (example: Malta -> Gozo, Gozo -> Comino, Comino -> Malta).
You can find them at a stand outside the terminal & the usually only accept cash.
Tip! If you have a suitcase with you, you can co-ordinate with them to bring it back on the boat you're catching back.
⛴ In order to visit Gozo & Comino, you can also find a lot of day trips departing from Sliema Ferries.
⛴ If you're planning a long trip, we also have a ferry from Valletta to Sicily.
