San Luis Obisbo & the California Central Coast

San Luis Obisbo & the California Central Coast

A trip to California's Central Coast is pretty much always a good idea. Located about halfway between LA and San Francisco, San Luis Obisbo, or SLO, is the perfect weekend trip. Whether you're just planning on checking out the town or exploring the nearby areas, it's always worth spending some time here. This guide contains all of my personal recommendations for places to eat and things to do in the area that I have actually been to. In this guide you’ll get; - All of my favorite restaurants in SLO & the surrounding area. - Things to do in the area. - Multiple day trips from SLO, including my full-day trip guide to Morro Bay (a $5), and my full list of recommended stops in Big Sur (a $13 value). Enjoy :)

San Luis Obispo

I've stopped through SLO more times than I can count, and every single time, I've loved it. Mainly what I've done in SLO is sit at cafes or eat, and then I've wandered out a bit out of town to places like Morro Bay (which I'll cover later in this guide). For SLO specifically, here are some of my favorite spots.

Accommodation

Quality Suites Downtown San Luis Obispo
@michaela
This hotel isn't super fancy or special, but it still finds a way to offer a very SLO vibe for a really decent price. The architecture and design offer the classic Spanish countryside vibes of the area. The rooms are a little bit small but comfortable. There's a pool and they have a decent free breakfast and happy hour. It's also within walking distance to the downtown area.

Islay Creek Campground
@michaela
Located about 30 minutes from San Luis Obispo, Islay Campground is the main campground in Montana de Oro State Park. It's a beautiful campground with coastal cypress trees throughout, within walking distance of the park's most beautiful beach & some hiking trails. The campground has pit toilets & each site has its own picnic table & fire pit. On weekdays, you can usually walk in, but I recommend making a reservation ahead of time if you can, especially on weekends. You can make reservations on ReserveCalifornia
