The Maldives: local islands 101 guide.
1. The Maldives is made of tiny islands.
When people talk about the Maldives, are referring to a collection of islands, or Archipelago, located in the Indian Ocean. There are more than 1200 islands divided into 26 atolls (Haa Alif, the first in the north, while Addu, the one in the southern point).
The capital Male, is considered the eighth most densely populated island in the world. If you want to visit it, the cheapest way to reach it, it is the local ferry leaving from the jetty of Velana International Airport: in less than 15 minutes, you can be in the "concrete jungle" as Maldivians call their Capital city (also taxis available)
