Florence Dishes:

▪️Florentine steak, or bistecca Fiorentina, is truly an experience for any red meat fan. You order it by weight, and the smallest is typically 1 kg (2+ lbs), so best to share. If you’re going the steak route for just two people, go easy on the starters!

▪️Pappardelle al cinghiale is a classic Tuscan pasta dish. Boar ragu is hearty and delicious!

▪️Ribollita is the go-to Tuscan soup! The twist? It’s thickened with breadcrumbs. You won’t taste the bread, but it’s a delicious peasant dish from centuries past.

▪️Pasta tartufo - plenty of truffles come from Tuscany, so here’s your chance to order them close to source! The simplest dish is a long pasta like fettucine in a basic olive oil sauce, topped with generous shavings of truffle! It’s basic but oh so good.

▪️Coccoli translates to “cuddles” and it’s a great little antipasto! The small balls of fried dough are paired with cheese and sometimes prosciutto or other cured meats as an appetizer.

▪️Cantucci con vin santo are what most Americans call biscotti. (Biscotti just means cookies, so in Italy it’s a super general term.) In Tuscany they’re traditionally paired with a small glass of vin santo, a sweet dessert wine, to dip the cookies in and soften them up before biting!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Amateur Italian, travel advisor, and adventurous eater! I’m a travel creative living in small town northern Italy, and I've been planning travel for over 15 years. I've lived on three continents and visited over 40 countries, so I'm passionate about helping travelers experience the best of a location, no matter where! I love both/and travel: I want to see the big sights AND the local hangouts, the big cities AND the small towns. I’d love to help you do it too! If you’re going to Rome for the first time, you don’t need me to tell you to see the Colosseum. But you might want me to tell you if it’s better as a guided tour or on your own, what add-on’s are worth the money, and what are the extra secret things your ticket can get you! My favorite part of travel is eating well: finding the local haunts, tasting a new wine, and trying the local dishes. Amazing food doesn't have to be expensive: sometimes the best of a place is in the street food! But if it is a splurge, I'll make sure it's worth every penny. I'd love to work with you to create the trip of your dreams!
