ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Julia Joy Byrum
The magic of discovering a new place has always felt powerful to me. When I was a young girl discovering new cities, towns, villages, and wilderness in New England, Upstate New York, and Eastern Canada on canoe-camping trips with my family every summer, the refreshing new perspectives always transformed me in some way before the new school year. Just before I turned 18, a long wished-for roadtrip along Route 1 from San Francisco to San Diego became my first experience of a travel dream becoming reality. 3 years later, I was crossing the Atlantic for the first time one January evening on a red-eye flight. I remember the tears flooding my sleep-deprived eyes as I gazed up at Notre Dame de Paris in the bright afternoon sun. I had never seen anything so magnificent. 4 months of immersive cultural experience followed thanks to a study abroad program in which I studied art history and French language. France invited me back in 2016, this time with my favorite adventure buddy, Gavin. My husband and I spent the 2nd year of our dating relationship teaching English in the charming town of Auxerre, in the Burgundy region of France. With Auxerre as our home base, we enjoyed trips to Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Greece, and Croatia. Planning these trips, sometimes as a duo, sometimes as a group of friends or family, always gave me joy. As a detail-oriented and organized person, I happily took on the responsibility of planning. A few years ago, I planned a trip for Gavin and I to visit Costa Rica. It was harmoniously packed with nature, romance, eco-friendly luxury, and relaxation. After receiving numerous requests from friends for help with planning trips, and planning a few more myself, I've decided to offer my services to a wider audience. Travel never goes completely according to plan, but with an intention-based, thoughtfully balanced itinerary, I can help you come home from travel feeling enriched, rather than depleted.
