Whether it is an old-school joint or the new hip spot, an affordable menú del día or a 6-course blowout at a Michelin restaurant, there is more to eat and drink in Barcelona than any of us have room for. This list should help you hone in on some of the highlights.

Quimet & Quimet
@collectingrocks
The restaurant that made me fall in love with Barcelona is already known to many, they top all the lists of places to eat and once you’ve come you’ll understand the hype, there is no reason to ask yourself why they have been around for over 100 years, the proof is in the can… of seafood. This still family owned and operated tapas bar is famous for its extraordinary preparations of high quality canned seafood.

Contracorrent Bar
@collectingrocks
The menu here is a clear reflection of both the owners roots, one being Sicilian, the other being Catalan. Their seasonal menu, uses Catalan ingredients applied to Italian recipes and paired with a rotating natural wine list. Trust Anna, part owner and sommelier, to lead you towards a delicious, unforgettable meal. *Another thing to note is they have recently opened a second restaurant in Gracia with a variation of the same style of food.

La Poderosa
@collectingrocks
If you are craving something a little picante for lunch pop over to Gran Via and check out the ladies of La Poderosa. Always fresh, always flavorful Venezuelan style empanadas paired with salsas muy ricas and fresh-squeezed juices.

Restaurant Gegant
@collectingrocks
A tasty collab between former 035//bar owner and the team at Nomad. This new Poblenou restaurant is a knockout with an affordable and delicious menú del día and makes for a romantic setting after dark.

EL FORAT | UN BAR POR PUHREZ
@collectingrocks
To put it bluntly, this is my favorite dining experience in Barcelona. Michael, a Puerto Rican transplant, came to Barcelona just before the pandemic in early 2020 after a stint in Tokyo which followed years in various kitchens in NYC. His food is thoughtful, well executed and beautiful, many of the dishes being odes to some of his favorite meals or inspired by his travels. Sitting at his small 7-seat bar and watching him cook, host, wash dishes, entertain AND play amazing vinyl is quite impressive, you feel as if you are in a friend’s kitchen but one who cooks for a Michelin restaurant. Reserve via DM on instagram, go hungry and open-minded, the menu changes on a whim so be ready to go on a journey.

Can Cisa/Bar Brutal
@collectingrocks
A natural wine lovers mecca and well-known to hipster food lovers for the simple reason that Brutal does not disappoint. Their location on the often bustling, tourist-packed c/ Princesa in el Born makes it the perfect dinner spot after a long day of sight-seeing in Ciutat Vella.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Collecting Rocks
I am New Orleans native who has been living in Barcelona since 2021. While living abroad I am trying to take every opportunity to explore more of the European continent and love sharing my travel logs with those who are interested. I am an avid hiker, I love architecture, and my favorite meal out would be at someone's house. I am no stranger to a Michelin starred restaurant but I prefer local, cozy, and rustic. My ideal places to stay are small, independent boutique hotels or guesthouses because I like to mix with locals and other travelers. I put countless hours of research into every trip I take, small or large, because every detail matters.
