How to enjoy Jordan without renting a car? Me and my boyfriend have done it in February 2022 and we have some tips worth seeing for you ;)

6 days complete itenerary including bus schedule links, travel hacks in Jordan, must see things, cool spots and good accommodations.

EU citizens need visa which you can buy on arrival but you can also buy Jordan pass which costs around 72 JOD and includes entry to Petra and almost every other atraction in Jordan while visa alone costs 40 JOD and one day Petra ticket costs 50 JOD so when you want to visit Petra it is a must need. If you buy Jordan pass before arrival and print it is much quicker than if you dont. 

We recommend taking warm clothes in winter months like February because at day you will be fine with hoodie but at night especially in the desert it can be really cold. (Also from cultural reason because they don't like when women have naked arms and legs.)

Do not forget to pack your electricity plug adapter because they have several types.

Little tip for girls ;) - pack a plastic part of razor for shaving and buy only the sharp part becouse the plastic part is quite expensive here but the metal one is not. 

We arrived to Amman from Prague with Ryanair 9th of February at around 17:00 of Jordan time. It took us about 30 minutes to get done all formalities and leave the airport. 

We recommend buying Jordan prepaid simcard because it is cheap  and roaming very expensive. Our Simcard cost around 10 JOD for 1 week with 15Gb of mobile internet from Orange mobile operator and it is almost a duty to have internet in Jordan if you do not want to be lost and you can use it almost everywhere in Jordan. 

What we dont recommend is exchanging money at the airport beacause there is higher fee for it than in the city centre so just exchange just a little bit for the bus/taxi.

After we went outside of the airport building we started looking for a local bus to take us to the centre because Amman airport is more than 30 km away from it. The bus leaves every 30 minutes from airport and you can buy tickets from the driver. As every bus in Jordan nobody know from where the bus leaves and when it arrives so you just need to wait or ask the locals or here is some kind of website with timetable but do not take it 100% seriously. We paid around  3,30 JOD per person for the bus but now prices can be different.

Because it is attached to Jordan denars so it is the cheapest way and they do not usually take credit cards.

In the evening we tried this Korean corn dogs. Yes I know nothing local but it looked great :D.

Bonus TIP: It's better to take a proper shower in the morning before departure, as showering with warm water in the desert can be more challenging.

We left the bus at some station which we thought was the closest to our Hotel and then walked at complete dark. We dont usually book our accomodations before arrival but from day to day. Only exception is the first day after arriving to some country to be sure to not having problems finding something when its late and yo are tired from journey.

Our suggestion is to screenshot your hotel location in a case if you dont have internet.

After great breakfast we walked from Olive hotel to the city centre to our next hotel Downtown Twins where we left our backpacks(you can of course also take taxi for a few JODs but we wanted to explore Amman so we chose to walk).

Then we went to explore Amman centre! We walked through a lot of shops and markets where you can find almost everything and it is very chaotic for an european. When we got hungry from all this we wanted to try something typical for Jordan so we waked from restaurant to restaurant and then we found it! Shawarma! If somone told me that this beef/chicken meat with youghurt wrapped in arabic bread and served together with fries for max 2 JOD got us me much that I will even have it tattooed in arabic on my back I would have laughed at him but here we are its a reality :D. Recommend to everyone!

Getting up early is something that is common for our trips beacause we want to explore as much as possible so we got up around 5 AM and got taxi from our hotel to tourist Jett bus station in Abdali from where we wanted to go to Petra. You can buy bus tickets in advance on official Jett website. Even when you already have tickets try to be everywhere sooner than later... In Jordan all timetables are just informational and everything lives its own life.

Route to Petra was around 4 hours which is way more than in was supposed to with a stop at some shop with huge prizes(probably had a deal with Jett or bus driver).

Right after arrival we went to check in to our hotel Petra Town Check-in Hotel:

We recommend this hotel especially because of willingness of the owner. He gave us a map of Petra where he marked all places that are worth seeing and gave us super tips. 

We got up again around 5 AM an our awesome hotel owner even at this early time got up took care of us and made us a breakfast even it was 3 hours earlier.  Ater eating we got got inside local bus to Wadi Rum which stopped right before our hotel and bus driver called our hotel owner that we can already get inside. Bus cost around 7 JOD per person but it was an amazing experience. All the time there was playing arabic music the bus was jumping at every little hole. One of the best thing was when they were calling from mosque that its time to pray. Bus driver just instantly stopped and every Jordananian jumped out of bus and went to pray. Also before they stopped at some bakery and bus driver bought a lot of Arabic breads and Falafel and gave every person a piece of it. During the route driver asked for a name and adress of our desert apartment where he called and communicated a Jeep that picked us right from the bus a took us to our desert camp inside Wadi Rum reservation. 

Again we recommend this accomodation to everyone because the hosts were great again. They enjoy every day with a smile on their face in a sunny desert. You also have a free drinking water and Arabic black tea available whole day :).

They also have another atractions like: stargazing, camel tours, hiking and climbing tours or hot air ballon sunset ride all for good price. There is also sandborading for free to try but we recommend to take on some older pants because you will be dirty from it :). 

We also bought a dinner there which they made underground. It was a buffet form and it was fantastic. You can spend evening there playing board games or just chatting with hosts or other tourists. 

We talked with an Italian couple who also took us next day to Aqaba. 

Hosts were very friendly and if you ask them where you headed next day they will ask other guests if anyone goes there or they will arrange it themselves. Its really nice athmosfhere there.

After this only remaining thing was travel back to Amman by bus but we cant provide any busschedule because there is any and we had to ask locals where is the bus route to find it :D.

The easiest way to reach downtown Amman from the airport is by taxi; the journey takes approx. 30-45 minutes, and the fare is about 15 JDs (around $22) or by bus

Next day after breakfast we went with our new Italian friends in their car to Aqaba. The route was very pleasant and quick.
