The villages of Tinos are a major draw, enticing visitors to return for their summer vacations or other special occasions when they can partake in local festivities or events. Each village has its own unique character, ranging from serene and picturesque to vibrant and majestic, all steeped in tradition. Pyrgos

THE VILLAGE OF MARBLE ART

Pyrgos is the largest village in Tinos, boasting a landscape adorned with marble at every turn—its characteristic white and green hues blending harmoniously with whitewashed houses, blue windows, and flourishing courtyards.

The Museum of Marble Crafts showcases the intricate journey of marble, from extraction to the creation of exquisite works of art. Preserved in its original state, the House of Giannoulis Chalepas echoes the legend of the renowned sculptor.

Pyrgos also offers a delightful array of dining options, from traditional to modern. Start your day with breakfast at Athmar, savor Greek cuisine at To Yiasemi, or indulge in Italian cuisine at Dough & Shaker. Complete your culinary journey with a visit to Boheme bar for a refreshing drink or a local delicacy like walnut or orange pie.      

Volax

FOR THE POETRY & GEOLOGY LOVERS

Volax, or Volakas, stands out as one of the most renowned villages of Tinos, celebrated for its stunning mountainous beauty and the eerie rocks that envelop it, evoking a lunar landscape. As you wander through this picturesque village, you’ll be greeted by charming white-blue houses dressed with vibrant flowers, bougainvillea, and verses of poetry.

Poems by renowned Greek poets decorate colorful house doors, the walls of old abandoned houses, and windows, creating a harmonious and picturesque ambiance. After exploring the village, prepare to be awestruck by the “lunar” landscape that awaits you.

Massive, round, tall, or even zoomorphic granite rocks dot the hillsides, forming an impressive and imposing spectacle unlike anything you’ve seen before. The origin of these rocks has sparked both imagination and scientific inquiry. Volax is also a haven for climbers from around the globe, offering prime bouldering opportunities.

Additionally, from Easter to the end of October, you can explore the Folklore Museum of the village. To unwind and savor the village atmosphere, stop by Kafe-nai for coffee, refreshments, and homemade sweets.      

Isternia

THE SUNSET PLACE TO BE

Take a leisurely stroll through the village and explore the Museum of Hysternian Artists, where you’ll discover the rich tradition of the villagers in the art of marble. You can also venture to the north of the village to visit the Windmills of Myloi, a designated listed monument. Keep in mind that vehicles are parked outside the village, as there are many stairs that wind through the complex alleys.

Additionally, don’t forget to visit the sandy bay of Ysternia, located just 4 km below the village, offering a beautiful beach and fish taverns serving fresh seafood in a serene setting with clear waters perfect for swimming.       

Falatados

LOST IN WHITE

Falatados, the second largest village on Tinos & exudes tranquility with its whitewashed residences and stone paths. The picturesque village square is home to the impressive church of Agios Ioannis-Agias Triadas, boasting an 18-meter dome and 17th-century icons. Visitors can also explore the Ecclesiastical Museum and the Sketch House housed in the old elementary school.

The village is renowned for its raki, with many presses and distilleries operating year-round. In September, the Rakizio festival is a major local event.

Falatados is also known for its quality wines, and visitors can enjoy a premium wine tasting experience at the T-OINOS tasting room located nearby. Indulge in traditional Greek cuisine all day long at restaurants like Klouki or Falatados Bread & Salt, immersing yourself in the flavors of the region while enjoying the laid-back ambiance of the village.      

Panormos

THE EXPLORERS PORT

The charming port of Panormos, nestled close to Pyrgos Village, is a natural harbor of significant importance, serving as an ideal base for excursions to nearby beaches such as Agia Thalassa, Kavalourko, and Rohari.

Venture to the Stalactite Cave of Panormos (Caves Panormos & Kamara), featuring four halls and two entrances. Located at the northwest end of Panormos near the small cape Kamara, these caves offer an intriguing experience for visitors. Across from Panormos lies the rocky islet “Planitis,” home to the historic old lighthouse, a preserved monument dating back to 1886. Enjoy breathtaking views of the lighthouse from beaches like Agia Thalassa and Kavalourko as you take a morning dip in the sea.

Additionally, a hiking trail from Panormos leads to these scenic spots. You can also find the renowned and vibrant Rochari Beach on a short distance from Panormos, perfect for soaking up the sun and enjoying the lively atmosphere. Indulge in fresh fish and seafood at Tama Tinos or To Limanaki taverns, savoring the flavors of the sea in the picturesque setting of Panormos.      

Triantaros

THE COLORFUL PATHS

Triantaros village is characterized by two main features: its breathtaking view of Tinos and the surrounding islands, and its commitment to preserving traditional architectural elements. Located just 7 km from Chora,

Triantaros attracts both Greek and foreign visitors throughout the day. The village is characterized by houses adorned with small courtyards filled with flowerpots, stacked next to each other along narrow alleys and leveled steps. Don’t miss a visit to To Koutouki tis Marias tavern for the best traditional meatballs or stop by Triantaraki for a delicious dessert and traditional Greek drink. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you encounter the colorful steps that add to the charm of this picturesque village.      

Kardiani

THE CHARMING VIEWS

Kardiani is a village nestled on the slope of Mount Pateles, boasting impressive architecture and stunning panoramic views. Recognized as a traditional settlement by the Ministry of Culture, Kardiani exudes charm with its marble fountains and skylights, constructed from the local stones and marbles.

The Orthodox cathedral, Holy Trinity, stands as a preserved monument and a striking landmark within the village. Indulge in local traditional cuisine at Dimitra Traditional Café & Restaurant or experience a modern Greek twist at To Perivoli tis Kardianis.

For cocktails with a view, head to the Sunset Bar and savor the scenic beauty. Within a quick 10-minute drive from the village, you’ll discover the sandy shores and calm waters of Beach Giannaki, perfect for a relaxing day by the sea.      

Komi

THE VIBRANT ONE

Komi stands as one of the largest and most captivating villages in Tinos, nestled within a lush valley. Renowned for its traditional architecture, Komi remains one of the liveliest settlements on the island. Komi retains a rustic charm that is both authentic and inviting.

For a taste of Mediterranean cuisine, dine under the shade of towering trees at Svoura Restaurant. Alternatively, if you’re in the mood for music, cocktails, and vibrant Moroccan-inspired decor, Mamacita Bar is the place to be. Every year, at the beginning of May, Komi hosts the Artichoke Festival, a celebration where the women of the village showcase their culinary prowes, accompanied by traditional music and dancing & with approximately 10,000 artichokes consumed throughout the day!

Ktikados

THE TRAIL TO TOWN

Ktikados is a quaint and charming village, nestled near the town of Tinos, offering a unique view of Kionia and a peaceful ambiance. As you stroll through the village, you’ll encounter the typical elements of Tinian architecture: traditional houses and churches, cobbled alleys, arches, and fountains.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there’s a hiking trail starting from Ktikados that leads to the Chora of Tinos. Don’t forget to bring your hat and sunscreen for this adventure!

Indulge in a delicious lunch at Drosia, a traditional restaurant offering stunning views overlooking the beach of Kionia. Alternatively, Rakizio offers modern Greek cuisine with comfort next to the tall Catholic Church of the Holy Cross.      

Agapi

LOVE CONQUERS ALL

Agapi, meaning “love” in Greek, stands as one of the oldest villages of Tinos, deriving its name from the renowned church of Saint Agapitos nestled within its bounds. The village features a captivating architecture, with houses preserving traditional elements and labyrinthine alleys adorned with characteristic arches.

Natural springs and a well with a laundry room further enhance the picturesque charm of this settlement, reflecting the island’s aesthetic beauty. Take a stroll through the Griza area, where running waters, lush greenery, and traditional dovehouses merge to create a unique natural landscape. Indulge in rich and comforting Greek cuisine at Majorana restaurant, savoring the flavors of the region.

For a day by the sea, head to the beaches of Apothiki and Kolimpithra, just a 10-minute drive from the village of Agapi.
