London photo walk: Hampstead Village 🌳
Before you go:
🤍 Wear comfortable walking shoes, bring a portable charger and make sure you have plenty of available storage on your phone to take pictures!
🤍 The nearby Hampstead Heath park (which you'll see on the map) is huge and could be a walk on its own. I've not built it into this route but have made a suggestion below where you could veer into it if you're interested. I do hope to add a photo walk for this park so stay tuned 😊
Directions in Google Maps:
Start: Hampstead Heath Station
Walk out of the station towards South End Road. If you fancy one, grab a coffee from The Nook - an adorable café that you should see across the road to the left.
Daunt Books
Continue north along South End Road until you reach the famous Daunt Books. Worth a peruse around - especially while you finish your coffee!
Keats House
Take a left down Keats Grove to No. 10 - a beautiful villa where the famous Romantic English poet once lived and wrote some of his work from.
23 Downshire Hill
Continue down Keats Grove, make a right on Downshire Hill towards house no. 23 - where you'll spot another blue plaque.
Perrin's Court
Turn around to head the other way down Downshire Hill towards Pilgrim's Place and make a right.
Carry up the hill (the road name will change to Hampstead High Street) and then make a left at Perrin's Court (not to be confused with Perrin's Lane that's immediately before).
Church Row
At the end of the road, cross the street (Fitzjohn's Avenue) and carry on down Church Row - an 18th-century residential street with the Parish Church as a lovely backdrop. You'll find another blue plaque at No. 17.
Turn left down Frognal Way and loop around until you return back to Church Row.
Walk back up Church Row towards St. John-at-Hampstead Church where you'll pass an ancient burial ground.
Holly Walk
Just after the church, make a left down Holly Walk.
Bolton House
Make a right at Mount Vernon where you should immediately see another blue plaque for Robert Louis Stevenson.
Continue around the road towards Frognal Rise and make a left. Cross the street to Windmill Hill to reach Bolton House.
Admiral House & Fenton House
Carry on down the road and take a right at Admiral's Walk and head towards Admiral's House - a striking white house dating back to 1700 with a roof that resembles a ship's quarterdeck.
Make a right down Hampstead Grove - another beautiful road with lots of gorgeous homes. Halfway down the block is Fenton House.
The Holly Bush
Continue down Hampstead Grove until you reach Holly Mount. Make a left and you'll immediate see one of my favourite pub facades in London - The Holly Bush. I recommend stopping here for a drink / brief rest if you'd like one!
After, carry on down Holly Mount until you reach Holly Mount Steps, which will take you down to Heath Street.
Flask Walk
Cross over to Back Lane and walk until the end of the road where you'll see the cute Le Cage Imaginaire bistro. Look right to take in the charming pedestrian-only portion of Flask Walk.
Burgh House
Continue the other direction down the street and turn left at New End Square where you'll see the lovely Burgh House.
17 East Heath Road
Peruse a few more charming streets by continuing down New End Square, making a right on Well Road, then left on Cannon Lane, which will turn into Squire's Mount, and a final right on East Heath Road.
The Wells Tavern
Carry down East Heath Road, then make a right down Well Walk. When you reach The Wells Tavern, turn left on Christchurch Hill.
Carry on until Christchurch Hill turns into Willow Road, which will run parallel to Hampstead Heath park.
From here, you can cross into the park and carry on as you wish*, or follow the road until it turns into South End Road, which will lead you back to Hampstead Heath station!
End: Hampstead Heath Station
