Mesa Verde National Park
Trip Planning
Best Time to Go
In my most honest opinion, you should do at least one of the guided tours when you go to Mesa Verde National Park. The self-guided hikes are amazing too, but the tours are great with information you get from the guide, and with the next-level "challenges" you won't get on a normal trail.
So, because the tours only run from May-October, I would say the best time to visit would be during fall. Fall would be ideal because it won't be as hot, but summer isn't so bad. I went during 4th of July weekend and the highest it went was 94 degrees and it's around noon to 2pm, so it's not that bad. Right? Just stay hydrated and dress accordingly. And you're planning this with me, and I was in the shade during the hottest hours so I got you. :)
Getting There and Around
Driving
Mesa Verde National Park is a 7-hour drive from Colorado's Capital, Denver. If you're driving from Arizona, hitting up the prettiest desert landscapes, you can add in Mesa Verde for an extra 6 hours from Sedona. If you're driving from New Mexico after consuming all their green chile, you'll get there in 4 hours from Albuquerque. And driving from my favorite adventure destination - Moab, Utah - is a little less than 3 hours.
