Guatemala is THE most underrated country. It ranks in my top 3 favorite countries of all time and is a MUST if traveling through Central America. This list includes all of the best activities, restaurants, beaches, and bars so you won't miss out on a thing.

Antigua
Acatenango
@tamaraknell
The most insane overnight hike I've ever been on. UNREAL views of multiple volcanos and ACTUAL lava. Its not easy as its all uphill the whole time but its so so so worth it. You can also opt to hike Fuego for sunset after arriving at basecamp (which I did) and you can get even better views of the lava but its very very difficult. Prob the most I've ever pushed my body in my life. But it was one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life.

Cerro de la Cruz
@tamaraknell
This is a great place to watch sunset overlooking Antigua. Very easy to walk to from the city center. It's a popular spot among locals as well. Pro tip: Bring a few drinks n snacks and have a picnic!

Caoba Farms Restaurant
@tamaraknell
This place has a bit of everything. Organic restaurant, farm, weekend market, live music, and yoga/aerial arts. Spend a few hours here walking around and enjoying the grounds. Restaurant is pricey but food is amazing and fresh!

Santa Catalina Arch
@tamaraknell
Picturesque arch in the city center. At night this area is a bustling part of town with live music, shopping, and street food.

Pacaya
@tamaraknell
Another stunning volcano to climb. I would choose Acatenango over Pacaya if you want just one but if you are a hiker and up for the challenge then Pacaya is a great choice!

Hobbitenango
@tamaraknell
Deff just made for tourists but its still fun! Play some games, eat, and enjoy the views. There is an office in town where you can buy a ticket and they will provide the transportation.
*This is where they have the famous picture standing on a giant hand overlooking the scenery*

Originally from LA, I've solo traveled to 56 countries at 27 years old.
Most of my travels have revolved around South East Asia, Central America, Europe, Australia, and South America.
I specialize in budget backpacking and slow travel. I focus my recommendations on adventure activities, nature, cultural experiences, local food, and nightlife.
I've had tons of crazy experiences along my journey that has shaped me into the confident backpacker I am today. I want every person (but women especially!) to feel the joy and freedom that comes from solo traveling.
I'll tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly. I've made tons of mistakes traveling; I've lost my debit card, had medical emergencies, stolen iPhones, and the occasional mental breakdown...or two. Traveling is not always picture perfect so I want to show you all the nitty gritty details to make sure you are THE most prepared for your backpacking adventure.
