Rome is my favorite Italian city. This history is unparalleled, and the food is amazing! This guide gives you a full (but not overwhelming) itinerary perfect for getting the most out of the city.

This itinerary assumes you have three full days in Rome! The itinerary is flexible - you can do the days in whatever order, or even mix and match the restaurants. I pair them loosely based on location, but do what sounds best!

On days with major activities, you may want to keep the rest open. That being said, I’ve suggested optional activities for those who want to go big all day!

Planning your trip in advance:

One note on the front end: please, year round, prebook your activities! The Vatican and Colosseum fill up fast, even on the offseason.

If you fly into Rome on the first morning, you likely won’t get to your hotel until around noon, so don’t book anything before midafternoon.

"It was very basic and didn’t provide any insight that wasn’t already a given in my opinion. I feel like I wasted my money. Stuff like “Book tours in advance” yeah, obvious."

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Amateur Italian, travel advisor, and adventurous eater! I’m a travel creative living in small town northern Italy, and I've been planning travel for over 15 years. I've lived on three continents and visited over 40 countries, so I'm passionate about helping travelers experience the best of a location, no matter where! I love both/and travel: I want to see the big sights AND the local hangouts, the big cities AND the small towns. I’d love to help you do it too! If you’re going to Rome for the first time, you don’t need me to tell you to see the Colosseum. But you might want me to tell you if it’s better as a guided tour or on your own, what add-on’s are worth the money, and what are the extra secret things your ticket can get you! My favorite part of travel is eating well: finding the local haunts, tasting a new wine, and trying the local dishes. Amazing food doesn't have to be expensive: sometimes the best of a place is in the street food! But if it is a splurge, I'll make sure it's worth every penny. I'd love to work with you to create the trip of your dreams!
