Buenos Aires: Mexican Food

Buenos Aires: Mexican Food

I'm always craving Mexican food no matter where I go. And sometimes I just get tired of eating the local food all the time, and there is nothing more I want than a spicy burrito covered in green chili. This list is not just the great places, but also includes the meh places along the way so that you know what to stay away from!

Chacarita

Georgie's
@nicki
HIPSTER TACOS Georgie's is a hipster haven located right on a corner spot near the main street in the Chacarita neighborhood. The atmosphere is very chill, and not at all pretentious. The workers are really nice. While they do serve tacos and gorditas, it doesn't exactly have a "Mexican feel" inside the place, which is decorated with postcards and maps of New Zealand, as well as random other photographs. They have a vegan option for both tacos and gorditas. The meat options for tacos are asado and pork. The meat option for a gordita is chorizo. The menu is not extensive, which is a great thing in my opinion, as the items they focus on are really excellent. I'm a fan of the dill and cilantro they put on top of the tacos. There are a few tables outside and about 7-8 tables inside. We went on a Tuesday evening at 9pm and got the last table inside. We ordered 2 orders of tacos (each order has 2 tacos), one gordita and 2 canned IPA beers. The total was 4750 pesos.

Colegiales

Taco Box
@nicki
AVOID! Day/Time I went: Tuesday, 7pm What I ate: Burritos & Mojito Price: 2000 pesos Final Rating: 🌮 🌮 Thoughts: I will not be going back. Even if I'm walking by and craving guacamole. Even if it's the only thing open. Taco Box was shockingly bad. They were out of tequila (in a Mexican restaurant!!!) so we couldn't order margaritas. The "salsa" that was brought out with the chips was more of a tomato soup. I'm not joking. Like imagine pouring out a can of Campbell's tomato soup and dipping your chips in it. Please don't go here if you like your food to taste good. I only gave it two stars because the mojito was surprisingly good.

San Telmo

Che Taco Comida Mexicana
@nicki
THE BEST Hands down, the absolute best Mexican food I've found in this city. Authentic, delicious, and best of all- they have picante sauce- green and red. Not just the Porteño 'are you sure you want more, it's so spicy' (when it's really not), but real 'my lips are burning in the best of ways' spicy. Some food options include burritos, tacos, gringas, huaraches, sopes, etc. Drinks include jamaica, horchata, and even a delicious (and massive) michelada. The people who work here are really from Mexico, so they know what's up! I went with a couple friends on a Friday night around 7:30pm and had no difficulties getting a table. It was relatively empty until about 9:15 when the locals starting heading in. I ordered chicken huaraches (very big portion), michelada, and shared a third of an order of chips with guacamole and paid 2500 pesos (including tip).

La Fábrica Del Taco San Telmo
@nicki
WORTH IT IF YOU'RE NOT IN A HURRY This small taco shop is connected to the San Telmo Market from the outside, right in the heart of the San Telmo neighborhood. The vibe of the place is cool, but the service is quite slow, at least on weekends when it's busy. They have Mexican beer, taco promos, burritos, etc. It took ages for us to receive our tacos, though once we did finally receive them, they were quite tasty. I liked the vibe of the place, especially if you can snag a table outside. Don't go if you're in a hurry, but if you have time to chill, I think it could be worth it. We went on a Saturday at 3pm, and left at 4:30. It took nearly 1.5 hours to receive 3 tacos. The three taco promo, 1 Corona and 1 Patagonia beer was 2015 pesos.
