If you like beer, cocktails, food, and lighthouses, this one day/one night guide to Portland is for you. While this guide is not strictly timed except for one activity, it is designed to have you in bed by 11pm, so you can go out there and enjoy the next day to the fullest. Without further ado:

Stop 0.5: But first, coffee!

Bread & Friends

Bakery and restaurant with bold flavors and delicious specialty coffees

If you start your morning in Portland, check out Bread & Friends for coffee and breakfast. They modify their menu often, but they always have something exciting and delicious! Be warned though, it's quite a wait on the weekend.

Stop 1: The first beer (or two) of the day

Shipyard Brewing Company
@liliapproves
If you're a fan of Fall flavors, get the Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale the way it was meant to be had, from tap and with a cinnamon sugar rim. If you're into fruity flavors, try the Sea Dog Wild Blueberry Ale

Details

Head to Shipyard Brewing Company in the historic Old Port area for your first (alcoholic) drink of the day. Shipyard Brewing Company is the largest brewer in Maine, owning Shipyard and Sea Dog, and here you can try beers from both! So enjoy a beer or two and do some shopping at their store until it's time for a 15 minute walk over to...

Stop 2: Time to see some lighthouses

Enjoy your buzz on the water during this one hour tour of Portland lighthouses. Book this ahead of time, and make sure to show up at least 15 minutes early to redeem your ticket and pick a seat They sell drinks and snacks on the boat, so you can have your second (third? who's counting?) beer of the day here!

Stop 3: Seafood pit stop

Eventide Oyster Co.
@liliapproves
Known for their soft and luscious brown butter lobster rolls and fresh oysters, you must get both. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and can help you pick out which oysters to get.

Walk to Eventide Oyster Company for a memorable lunch. I came for the brown butter lobster roll (which was fantastic), but I stayed for the oysters and friendly staff. Seriously, these are the best oysters I've ever had. It is a splurge and a bit of a wait, but if that's in your travel plans, this place is a must. Pair your seafood with a white wine, a local beer, or one of the many fun low or zero-proof drinks they offer!

Stop 3.5: Walk (and shop) off the food

By now, you've probably noticed that the Old Port district is full of interesting stores and boutiques. Use this time to slow down and check out stores like local spice store Skordo.

Stop 4: Mid-day cocktails with flair

Papi Portland
@liliapproves
If you like interesting cocktails and a cool, Caribbean vibe, you can't go wrong with Papi. If you get lucky, founder LyAnna will be your bartender and walk you through her bold cocktail creations inspired by her Puerto Rican roots.

Details

It's time for your next drink and/or snack! You're headed to hip Puerto Rico for a brief vacation from your vacation. I tried to have just one cocktail here, but they all sounded too good and interesting! Don't worry, if you're drinking too much and need a snack, their food is also pretty good.

Stop 5: Beer + Poutine

Oxbow Blending & Bottling
@liliapproves
Known for farmhouse ales and mixed fermentation styles
Add to
Details
Duckfat Frites Shack
@liliapproves
With a much shorter wait than the Duckfat standalone restaurant, this feels like a hack.
Add to
Details

We're back at a brewery, and it's got a fries shack with Portland-famous Duckfat poutine! So coat your stomach with some heavy food, because we have two more breweries coming up.

Stop 6: Just good beer

Lone Pine Brewing Company
@liliapproves
Known for their IPAs
Add to
Details

If you're down to keep drinking and love IPAs, head to Lone Pine Brewing Company. But heads up: they close early, so be sure to check their hours.

Stop 7: Just good beer, part 2

Hi-Fidelity
@liliapproves
Add to
Details

Right nearby is this dive-y small batch brewery where you can try to coax the master brewer into a conversation. Head there next if you're down for a final drink or two.

Stop 8: Late night(ish) grub

Crispy Gai
@liliapproves
Get the red curry wings with a side of ranch and fried rice

Details

Step ??: Go home, you're drunk!

Make sure you know your limits and remain aware of your surroundings. Be careful out there and have fun!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Hola! I'm a Venezuelan-American based in Washington, D.C. who likes beer, cocktails, good food, and unique experiences. My specialty areas are the U.S., Spain, and Tokyo. I love a high-end tasting menu as much as I love amazing street food. I love a bustling city, the great outdoors, and everything in between. When I'm planning for myself, I make sure to include plenty of local breweries, creepy places or tours, and theme parks. I mostly travel alone, with my partner, or with friends.
