Buenos Aires: Lunch and Brunch

Buenos Aires: Lunch and Brunch

Brunch has definitely become more in fashion down here in the Paris of the South. Every year, great new brunch and lunch cafes are opening across the city. Here is a list of my favorites, who not only have fantastic food, but a cozy environment as well.

Belgrano

Casa Sáenz
@nicki
Because this is a cute cafe on the corner in Belgrano, it's on the upscale/pricier side than what you might find in other places. But the atmosphere is wonderful. It's like a brightly lit cafe with good vibes. They make their food fresh every day. Tons of vegan and vegetarian options like stuffed eggplant, brussel sprouts, spinach fritters, and corn pudding. But here's a tip- they open at noon, and I strongly suggest getting there as early as possible. They food they make at the start of the day sits out on the counter for the rest of the lunch shift. People have the option to come over and take a look at the specialties of the day. That means, people are standing right over your potential lunch. But if you get there early you don't have to worry about it.

Moisha Bakery - Belgrano
@nicki
This is a Jewish cafe with fantastic bagels, pretzels, and several coffee options. Inside is cozy and the people working here are really nice. Unfortunately I did not see shakshouka on the menu, which I was hoping to find. They have both breakfast and lunch food options.

MÖOI Belgrano & MÖOI MARKET
@nicki
Right in the heart of Belgrano, diagonal from the Plaza Manuel Belgrano, sits Mooi, which means "beautiful" in Dutch. It really is quite beautiful, though it gives off a bit of a cheesy vibe. The inside area is cute, but not generally the type of ambience I look for if I want to pay for a meal. It was a bit of 'cottage core.' However, they do have an outdoor patio, and a ton of seating both inside and out so you shouldn't have an issue getting a seat. We went on a Sunday around 2pm and didn't have an issue. We ordered the pumpkin ravioli and the chicken with a mushroom sauce, quinoa and pumpkin slices. Though were both delicious, though I prefered the ravioli. The sauce and flavors were so rich. We also ordered a fresh strawberry juice. The total was just under 6000 pesos for two meals and a karafe of juice. The menu did seem on the pricier side, though it is in Belgrano afterall.

SĀNTAL - Belgrano
@nicki
There are actually 3 locations of Santal. This location is slightly bigger than the others. There is a ton of seating both inside and outside on the front patio and back garden. Inside you have the choice of chairs or sofas. There are a lot of great food and drink options, including the brunch special for two. For 4400 pesos (About $20 USD), you can get: Avocado Toast with a poached egg Chipas filled with mushrooms Maicena Alfajor Banana bread with cream on top Lemonade Coffee Aperol Spritz Everything is made fresh in house and you can tell. It is all very delicious. We had brunch in the back garden underneath mandarin and banana trees. Very relaxing. We went on a Sunday around noon and it wasn't too busy yet. We easily found a table.

Colegiales

Salvaje Bakery
@nicki
This is easily the BEST bakery in the entire city. First of all, the atmosphere is COOL. It feels more like you're inside a funky garage than a bakery, with an American 90's rock flair. There is indoor and outdoor seating. You can have brunch while jamming to Blind Melon and staring at photos of Kurt Cobain on the walls. Everyone who works there has great style and is super friendly. Also, this place Is BUSY, which is a very good sign. On top of that, the food is delicious. It's not specifically a vegan/vegetarian spot, but there are a TON Of options to satisfy those dietary requirements including veggie sandwiches and beet dip. The bread (sandwich bread, croissants, bagels, etc.) are all extremely fresh, as are the juices. This is a place I will come back to again and again. Not to mention, the prices are extremely fair.

Yedra Cocina Silvestre
@nicki
If I had to choose one word to describe this place it would be "magnificent." The vibe and atmosphere of the place is so cute and cozy. They also have lovely outdoor seating, which is perfect in the afternoon when the sun comes up and shines right on you. The people working here are all cool and alternative looking. The food is amazingly delicious (all vegan and vegetarian). It is completely worth a stop in!
