St. Augustine is a family favorite of ours due to the historic district and all of the fun things to do in town. We love a good beach trip, but our family also likes other things in town to keep us busy other than hanging out on the beach for 7 days straight. We also love the close proximity to the Space Coast and often combine this trip with a rocket launch in Titusville! The amount of activities that are different than most other beach towns are endless and the kids love coming back here.

Our Top Things to do in St. Augustine

Castillo de San Marcos National Monument
@kristageiger
We have been here several times and my kids absolutely love exploring this fort. Sometimes we purchase tickets and go inside; othertimes we just hang out on the property. Regardless, we always make it a point to visit this gem.

Places to Stay in St. Augustine

My family loves camping, but we have not camped in St. Augustine before. However, here is a well known campground that I have heard great things about. Also, if you are looking for something on the beach, check out Anastasia State Park (linked above under activities) which has campsites with electrical hookups.

This is not on the beach, but it is a short drive from the historic district. If you are looking for a beach campground, check out Anastasia State Park.

Embassy Suites by Hilton St Augustine Beach Oceanfront Resort
@kristageiger
Great location, beautiful pool and available suites make this a perfect family friendly hotel. Complete with an inlobby Starbucks. This is close to the Historic District, but make sure to give extra time when traveling into town due to the drawbridge.

Places to Eat with Kids in St. Augustine

Everytime we go to St. Augustine, my husband and I walk by all of these delicious smelling restaurants. We peek inside the windows and see that they have white tableclothes and breakable wine glasses...another trip, I guess! Here are the places we have frequented quite often and have enjoyed.

Sunset Grille
@kristageiger
Extensive menu, great atmosphere and a large kids menu!

A order at the window type of place, this is perfect when you are tired of the drawn out, formal restaurants with the kids. They have outdoor tables.

St. Augustine Seafood Company
@kristageiger
This restaurant is located in the heart of the historic district and is a great option if you want to put your name on a list, and continue to walk around and explore. They will text you when the table is ready. Great food!

Cone Heads Ice Cream
@kristageiger
We love this ice cream shop! The only issue is they give you so much ice cream it is hard to keep up with eating it before it melts in the St. Augustine heat!

Make a Day Trip To Titusville to Catch a Rocket Launch

We sometimes stay closer to Titusville, near Cocoa Beach, or we stay in St. Augustine since we love this area. We then drive to Titusville for just the day. The risk with driving to Titusville is that if the launch is scrubbed (cancelled) last minute, you drove all that way for nothing. This has happened to us before and it is very disappointing! But when you do end up successfully seeing a launch, it truly is life changing and the kids will absolutely remember it forever. Luckily, rocket launches are very common so check out the website for more information.

Regardless of how long you are in Titusville, you need food. So before you set up your chairs and get comfy at your viewing location of choice, hit up Burger Robs and enjoy an absolutely delicious burger!

These burgers were absolutely delicious. Definitel stop here before or after catching a rocket launch in Titusville.

Here are the two places we have successfully viewed a rocket launch.  By far the coolest, most breathtaking experience has been at Playalinda Beach. However, this is also not the most convenient and the beach does close due to various factors. Make sure you check online and get there early. Here is a video of the rocket launch we saw at this exact beach.  It was apparently one of their smaller rockets that launched, yet it was still incredible from this viewpoint!

A breathtaking beach with a captivating view of the rocket launches! Make sure you check the website for updated information on beach closures.

Space View Park
@kristageiger
This park is located in Titusville and is 15 miles directly across from the launch pad. We have seen a launch from this location, and it is a great option!
