Solo Trip to Italy

I'd recommend that you start your journey flying into Venice and make your way south to Naples with your stops along the way (or vice versa). You can find a visual of that below! (This is actually the route I took when visiting in 2019 except I went from Naples to Venice because the flights worked out that way, so it can be reversed if needed)

Venice is a place that I think totally lives up to the hype! You could spend a week here if you wanted to, but since there are other places to see I recommend spending only your first two nights.

How to Get to Venice from the Marco Polo Airport

It’s the same as the private speed boat option above but by agreeing to share the ride with strangers you’ll get a much cheaper rate. In short, it’s a fast and less expensive way to get to Venice while still giving you the authentic experience of arriving by water. This is also an ideal option because using a shared water taxi or boat helps protect Venice from excessive traffic. It’s just like carpooling.

This is the fastest and cheapest way to get into Venice. A one-way cost is around 8 euros. 

You can get from Marco Polo to Venice via train but it is not the best option. This is because you'll first have to take a bus from Marco Polo to Mestre Train Station then take a train to the Venice station, Santa Lucia. From there you will need to get a water taxi. So although it is possible and affordable, the other options are much easier.

Florence is a true gem of Italy. It was one of my favorite places I went to because it's a very different vibe, but what you expect Italy to be like. Wine country, rolling hills, beautiful architecture, and good food!

From Venice you are going to take the ItaliaRail. Your route will be from the Venezia Santa Lucia station to Firenze Santa Maria Novella. It will be about a 2 hour direct train costing around 20 euros.
