Georgia's capital city, Tbilisi, is the ultimate vegetarian foodie destination, AND it's known for its delicious wines.
Did you know that Georgia is recognised as the world's oldest wine-making country? Yep! They know their wine.
We spent six months travelling around Georgia, and at least two of those were in Tbilisi, eating and drinking everything because it is all so good. Georgian is such an underrated cuisine, and it has the world's best bread! Big claim, I know, but I stand by it. Try it out and let me know.
This guide will help you with the best places to eat and drink that are friendly on the wallet, and that you absolutely cannot miss on your trip to Tbilisi.

If you're looking for somewhere with a bit more space, these apartments are perfect. And they're in a great location near Narikala Fortress, the waterfall viewpoint, and walking distance to restaurants.

Out of the main old city, but closer to the hipster street art area around Fabrika, and close to the metro so it's really easy to get to the rest of the city. (Make sure the room you book has a window!)

Breakfast/Bakeries
So, the first thing that you need to know about Tbilisi is it is not a city that wakes up early. You won't find people or businesses up and running until about 10am, so no rush to jump out of bed.
And one more thing, breakfast isn't a big deal out here. I guess because people get up later, they maybe just go straight into lunch.

You can find fresh and tasty lobiani, as well as tons of other bakery items. Everything is tasty!

The Secret Underground Bakery

So this is a rough place holder for where the bakery is because it's not marked on Google Maps. Head here and look for the sign that looks like the main picture. Head through the doors and downstairs, and you'll find a secret bakery. Grab your a lobiani, a khachapuri, whatever baked good takes your fancy!

Lunch/Dinner
The main event. These restaurants are all traditional, serving all the best that Georgian cuisine has to offer, which means lots of tasty veg and vegan options!

Super budget, but not scrimping on the flavour or quality! The restaurant is kind of underground, and a really interesting spot. The ajapsandali, Georgian walnut salad, and shoti (bread) from here are all so tasty. Cash only.

Try the mushroom khinkali, which are herby, and boiled; and the dambalkhacho khinkali, which are filled with blue cheese, and fried!

This place is special! Probably my favourite restaurant in Tbilisi, because it's not set up for tourists. It's a little bit out of the main part of the city, which means you'll get a proper local authentic experience. Try the tarragon mushrooms. They are exquisite!!

You can't come to the world's oldest wine making country, and not learn about the traditional process! The museum is fascinating, and make sure you ask for a couple of free tasters at the bar after. You need to have the full experience after all!

Bitadze Tea Museum

Did you know that Georgia used to be one of the world's largest tea producers? That is until the Soviets came in and knackered the traditional process in place of a faster process with lesser quality. It's a tiny spot, but the staff will talk you through the history, and give you a tea taster - it's punchy stuff!

Yes, there's a huge waterfall in the capital city! On the way though, you'll find stands selling wine ice cream, which you really have to try.
