Destination: Kauai

Destination: Kauai

These are my top recommendations for visiting Kauai, the most magical island on Earth. All of the places on this list are places that I have personally been to. Definitely make sure that you book one of the boat tours along the Na Pali Coast. The two tours that I’ve gone with are Blue Ocean Adventure Tours and Makana Charters. Check them out to decide which one is best for you - but they’re both amazing. I also definitely recommend doing some hiking, even if you aren’t a hiker. There are a variety of hikes on this list, most of them to waterfalls, all with different difficulties, so choose what’s best for you! Kauai is the wettest place on Earth, so seeing the waterfalls here should be a must-do. Otherwise, the beaches on Kauai are beautiful, especially Tunnels Beach, and the Garden Tours are actually way cooler than they sound. I recommend booking as far in advance as possible for any permits or tours you'd like to do. Kauai is popular, and many tours can get booked up months in advance. Use the map function on this guide by tapping the "map" button on the top right-hand corner to see where all of the recommended places are while you're on the go! Getting Around

Hawaii doesn't have the best public transit system, so unless you plan on staying within walking distance of your hotel your entire trip, or just booking tours, I highly recommend renting a car. Lihue Airport will have all the major rental car services. If you use one of them, I recommend booking ahead of time, as cars can be limited. It will give you a lot more mobility.

Turo

My preferred option when visiting Hawaii is to use Turo. If you haven't used Turo before, it's kind of like Airbnb, but for cars. It can often be cheaper than the regular rental car services, provides a larger range of types of cars you can rent, and also, makes you seem more like a local, which, in Hawaii can be a major plus. Regular rental car companies put stickers on the cars that register them as rental cars. If you rent from Turo, you won't have this.

Make sure that the car you're renting has the option to meet you at the airport! It makes the rental so seamless!
