Beaches you can walk / drive to in Cala Gonone, Sardinia

Stefania Cucca
The town of Cala Gonone is a gem right at the heart of the Gulf of Orosei, known for its stunning coastline and marvelous, wild beaches. The most famous ones are accessible only by boat or dinghy, services that should be booked early in advance due to the high demand. βš“οΈπŸŒŠ But what if you are looking for a more spontaneous solution, where you can just walk or drive for a few minutes and enjoy the cristal-clear Sardinian sea and beaches for free? πŸ–πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸš˜ With this free map I would like to help you with my best recommendations as a local person to discover the beaches in Cala Gonone, for which you do not need a boat or dinghy to get to. For each spot, you will find detailed notes, pics and videos that I took! πŸ“ΈπŸŒ… A little tip: as we are located in the Eastern coast of the island, you can admire the dawn on the sea early in the morning! πŸŒ… ⚠️ You won't always find: public transport, toilets / showes, trash bins, and beach loungers / sun umbrellas. Bars and food trucks are normally located outside of the beaches. There are no taxi services (Uber, Bolt, yellow cabs...) in Cala Gonone and Dorgali. Don't forget to save this map πŸ’Ύ to enjoy your adventures in Sardinia! πŸ—Ί Map with recommendations ⏳ ca. 3-4 days πŸ“ Cala Gonone, Sardinia, Italy πŸ’° Low-budget πŸ›ž By foot and by car πŸŽ’ Nature lovers, families, groups, couples, solo travelers

Beaches reachable by foot

Once you are located in the town of Cala Gonone, these are the beaches you can easily reach by foot.

Central Beach of Cala Gonone
@stefaniacucca
Called "Central" for its position right next to the little touristic port of Cala Gonone. It is made of little pebbles and you can get an amazing view on the Gulf of Orosei! This beach is easily accessible by Via Amerigo Vespucci, Via Su Porzu and, of course, the Port of Cala Gonone. The public toilets are located in the port, and cost €1 cash. πŸ‘πŸ» Pros: you can find many services around this beach as it is in the touristic heart of the town, at the same time you are surrounded by the colorful nature. πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Cons: you can hear the noise from the port, as all the boats and dinghies depart from there. It can get crowded as it is not too big and it is very central and easily accessible.

Garden Bar
@stefaniacucca
My favourite bar in town, stop here for a quick meal or a coffee! Prices are low, considering it is in a touristic town. Here you can have sandwiches, pizzas, quick snacks, and drinks!

Palmasera Beach
@stefaniacucca
The name of this beach comes from the Sardinian language, meaning "Palm of silk", due to the presence of the small local palm trees. It is located almost at the end of the town and easily reachable from the promenade on Viale Palmasera. It is made of little pebbles and it is also the longest beach in the town. πŸ‘πŸ» Pros: away from the noises of the town, but close to bars and other services at the same time. πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Cons: some space of the beach is dedicated to the chairs/sun umbrellas of the customers of the nearby touristic villages. At the entrance of the beach you can see some showers, but some of them are not working!

Sos Dorroles Beach
@stefaniacucca
This beach can be considered as the prosecution of Palmasera Beach. It is easily reachable from the town and it is perfect if you are looking for a more natural beach. It is made of little pebbles and it is easily recognizable by its cliff behind the beach. πŸ‘πŸ» Pros: Natural beach, easy to reach πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Cons: It can get quite hot as the cliff blocks the wind!

Beaches reachable by foot and by car

You can reach these beaches by either foot or car (in a range of 3km) once you are located in Cala Gonone.Β Remember that it can be a bit difficult finding a parking spot, especially during summer!

S'Abba Meica Beach / Dog beach
@stefaniacucca
The name of this beach comes from the Sardinian language, meaning "medical/curing water". In this beach dogs are allowed! πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί It is small and made of pebbles, and there are some steps to get to the beach. πŸ‘πŸ» Pro: it is less crowded and much more chill as it is a less known beach πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Cons: maybe not as "instagrammable" as the others, no services nearby

Ziu Martine Beach
@stefaniacucca
This small rocky beach is the perfect solution if you are looking for an isolated places with little or no people at all! You can access it by leaving Viale Bue Marino, on the road to Cala Fuili. In less crowded days and off-season, you can be lucky enough to encounter some goats roaming around! πŸ‘πŸ» Pros: isolated, almost no crowd πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Cons: very small, no services around, rocky and therefore not so comfortable to lay down!

Cala Fuili Beach
@stefaniacucca
Cala Fuili can be easily considered the most beautiful among the beaches with pebbles and rocks. It can be accessed easily by foot from Viale Bue Marino (3km), walking on the road. If you are driving with the car, please consider that this place can get quite busy and therefore it can be difficult to find a spot to park, as the road is quite narrow. Once you have arrived, you get a stunning view on the cliffs and on the Gulf of Orosei from the top. Here is also where you can find two chemical toilets. Then, to get to the beach, there are 163 steps, so brace yourself! πŸ‘πŸ» Pros: Stunning beach with amazing water, worth the distance! πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Cons: the 163 steps back on the way up can be a little hard, no services around.

Beaches reachable by car

These beaches are located North of Cala Gonone and are reachable by car only. They are located 20-25 minutes away from the town and they are sandy. Perfect solution if you want to spend a whole day away from the towns and be fully immersed in nature!

To get to these beaches you have two options:1. Taking the main road (SS125) from Cala Gonone / Dorgali;

2. Taking the panoramic road in the woods, starting from the neighbourhood of Gustui in Cala Gonone.

⚠️ Public transport does not reach this area, nor are taxi services available. The roads are narrow so be very careful when circulating and parking!

Here are some views from the panoramic road:

Cartoe Beach
@stefaniacucca
Cala Cartoe is one the most beautiful sandy beach in the area of Dorgali and Cala Gonone. Let yourself be amazed by the shades of blue of the water! There are also some rocks from which it is really fun to jump and dive in the sea. There is a little food truck at the entrance of the beach, that sells water, soda, coffee and snacks. πŸ‘πŸ» Pros: Very comfortable and tranquil, beautiful wild beach πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Cons: The road to get to Cartoe is quite narrow, so be careful when driving!

Osala Beach
@stefaniacucca
Osala is the beach of my childhood and I highly recommend it if you want to spend the entire day at the beach. It is sandy, quite large and very comfortable. Right behind the beach there is also a little pond, if you are lucky you can spot ducks and little frogs! There are two bars that serve panini (sandwiches), drinks and snacks for a good price. There is also a small rental service of sun umbrellas and beach loungers. Dogs are admitted in the northern part of the beach πŸ•β€πŸ¦Ί πŸ‘πŸ» Pros: stunning natural beach, perfect for kids and to stay for the whole day. πŸ‘ŽπŸ» Cons: the road is narrow so be careful when driving! When parking in the space behind the beach, check so that the wheels are not stuck in the sand.
