Peja (Kosovo)

Peja (Kosovo)

Christine Bertl
Peja is an old historical city in the west of Kosovo, in an amazing natural setting. Reachable with the taxi for 45 € (ordered from the hotel) from Prishtina (the capital).

Hotel

This place is in the heart of Peja, next to the lovely river that leads to the mountains. It comes with spa & amazing costumizable breakfast options. Traditional & comforting! The inhouse restaurant is next to the river and amazing to enjoy tea/breakfast there.

Food

Forget GoogleMaps! It fools you. There is hardly a good place to find on Maps. People like to tell you where to go. Approach the reception or people on the street - they love to talk to you!

Ranch has an amazing view over Peja and a lovely atmosphere next to a farm & climbing area. There is also a festival in summer taking place.

What not to miss in Peja?

Fli (traditional pancake from small bakeries)

Pepper in cheese sauce (hot dish) - maybe the only vegetarian friendly dish that blows you away - there's rather lots of meat dishes, that would taste amazing (unfortunately).

Peja crudo beer - the biggest beer manufacturer is placed in Peja & the unfiltered (crudo) beer is fantastic 🔥

What to visit

The nature is stunning! Hands down one of the most beautiful places I've been so far. Lots of mountains, amazing air, beautiful river (in the city sometimes full of plastics) and caves. Get a local friend with a car or rent one - hardly any traffic and Peja is directly in the mountains. Everywhere is beautiful!

Mulliri is a nice place which sells selfmade knitting products and next to it is an old museum to visit (not possible to find on Maps but lit next doors)

There is also an old market place (the ruins that remained from the legendary one) - nice for a short walk.
