Iowa City is located on the eastern part of Iowa, about 1 hour from the Mississippi River. It is the 5th largest city in Iowa, but what it lacks in population, it makes up for in Iowa spirit and fun activities to make for a fun weekend trip or stop on a roadtrip.

After having lived here for over 2 years, we have had the opportunity to truly experience the city. That is why we created this comprehensive guide full of all our favorite places and recommendations.

Getting There

Iowa City is located in central, eastern Iowa, 1 hour west of the Mississippi River and 1 hour and 40 minutes east of Iowa’s capital city, Des Moines. It is an easy weekend getaway from several large cities:

- 3.5 hours from Chicago, IL

- 4 hours from Milwaukee, WI
