To kickstart your adventure, the first step is renting a bike. While there are numerous bike rental options available, I highly recommend Ciclo Cocles. Your scenic bike journey

Manzanillo

Once you've secured your bike, embark on a picturesque journey to Manzanillo.

Manzanillo boasts pristine beaches that amaze nature enthusiasts and sun worshippers alike. The crystal-clear turquoise waters invite you to swim, snorkel, or simply lie down in the warmth of the sun

The nearby Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge offers a chance to explore dense rainforests, spot exotic wildlife, and appreciate the area's rich biodiversity.

The Gandoca-Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge is nothing short of a tropical paradise, where every vista feels like it's been plucked from a postcard. Upon arrival, you'll find no set entrance fee—instead, you're invited to make a donation and securely park and lock your bike at the main entrance. Within this haven, you can relish a refreshing swim and capture some truly epic photographs to commemorate your visit.

Your bike tour begins with this enchanting destination, and it's easy to feel like you've stumbled upon a slice of paradise that you never want to leave. However, I assure you that there are even more breathtaking tropical beaches awaiting your exploration. Therefore, my recommendation is to start with a scenic hike to reach the renowned viewpoint. After soaking in the mesmerizing views, take your time to savor the beauty of the beach, and then hop back on your bike to continue your journey to the next captivating stop.

Playa Grande

As you make your way back from Manzanillo, consider a pit stop at Playa Grande. This beach holds a special place in the hearts of surfers, known for its fantastic waves. It's also an ideal spot to pause, catch your breath, and savor the breathtaking coastal scenery.

Punta Uva offers several access points, but for an exquisite experience, I highly recommend approaching Punta Uva from the enchanting Arrecife area. Here, you'll discover pristine turquoise waters, towering palm trees providing refreshing shade, and idyllic spots that invite you for a refreshing swim.

Downtown Puerto Viejo

As the day gently transitions into twilight, there's a palpable sense of anticipation in downtown Puerto Viejo. Locals and travelers alike begin to gather along the waterfront, drawn by the promise of a Caribbean sunset. It's a daily ritual that unites people from all walks of life, sharing in the beauty of nature's grand finale.

Some tips to make the most out of your self-guided tour:

* Ensure your comfort during your bike ride by wearing comfortable attire, and I strongly recommend opting for tennis shoes.

* Protect your skin: Don't forget to apply sunscreen and wear a hat or baseball cap.

* Carry Essentials: Pack essentials like water, sunscreen, insect repellent, and snacks.

* Remember to secure your bike with a lock if you plan to leave it unattended, and be vigilant in safeguarding your valuables at all times.

* Know Your Limits: Be aware of your physical abilities and go at your own pace.

* Embrace the Pura Vida: Puerto Viejo embodies the Pura Vida lifestyle of Costa Rica, which is all about enjoying life to the fullest. Take your time, relax, and soak in the beauty of the surroundings. Don't rush; savor the moment.
