The first question that comes to your mind is where to start. Stay in Fussen, which is not far away from the castle. In Summer, the Castle becomes crowded. So make sure you book your tickets in advance by using their official page (www.hohenschwangau.de.). On-site tickets are also available, but it is advisable to book your tickets in advance. If you are staying in Fussen, then you will get a free Fussen Card, which you can use extensively for public buses. From Fussen, one can use bus No 73 (direction Halblech) or bus 78 (direction Schwangau) and exit at stop Neuschwanstein Castles, Schwangau. From there one can opt for bus service or horse-drawn carriage. I opted for the bus as it was raining heavily. Within 5 minutes I reached my destination. The guard will check your ticket and will let you in soon.
