🍁 No need to mention Maple syrup for the start, surely the first thing that comes to everyone's mind when thinking of Canada.

While you can find it in a bottle or can, you can also find it in different presentations, in cookies, cakes, donuts, etc. My recommendation is: try everything that includes Maple, you won't regret it!

Now, here are the other recommendations (there may be even more desserts, but these are the ones I have tried so far:

📍 British Columbia

                                        📍 Nanaimo Bars (Nanaimo)

Here's a no-bake dessert that's an absolute must any time of the year!

💰 Approximate price: $3:50 CAD

📍 Ontario

                                            📍 Beavertails (Ottawa)

Although it has its origins in Ottawa, nowadays it can also be found in different cities in Canada. If you are in Ottawa, you can find them at the Bayward market.

💰 Approximate price: Between $6.60- $9.40 CAD

                                                      Butter tarts

Part of Canada's pioneer cuisine, these tarts are made with maple corn. It is said that the first recipe found was from Barrie Ontario in the 1900s, however, it is also believed that the origin is even older (1600) from the French colonization in the Quebec region.

Nowadays, the tarts are filled with different ingredients, you can find them with butter (original), raisins, nuts or even chocolate and bacon. It is possible to taste them in any bakery or pastry shop and enjoy them with a coffee or a hot drink.

💰 Approximate price: $3.75 CAD

📍 Québec

                                        📍Poutine (Québec city)

If you are looking for something more salty, the Poutine is your best option. Poutine has become an emblematic symbol of Quebec cuisine and culture. It is a dish based on fried potatoes covered with cheese curds and gravy. It first appeared in the rural bars of Quebec in the 1950s and later spread throughout the country. Now it is possible to find it in restaurants as well as in streets and fast food stalls. Poutine has its vegetarian and vegan variations (sauce, sauce and sauce).

💰 Approximate price: $12 CAD

                                            📍Bagels (Montreal)

A Montreal style bagel or Bagel de Montreal is a type of bagel made by hand and baked in a wood-fired oven. In Montreal you will find two predominant varieties: white seed (sesame) and black seed (poppy). So you have a choice to taste to find out which one you like the most.

💰 Approximate price: $7 - $10 CAD

✨ You can also visit my guide to explore more of Montreal ✨

📍Barre Massawipi et Beigne a lérable (Sherbrooke)

Two of the most recent pastries tasted during my visit to Sherbrooke. Both the Massawipi bar and the Beigne a lérable, are a good choice to order in a cafe in town. They are typical of the region and are made from fruits and Maple that grow in Sherbrooke.

The bar is a combination of nuts, almonds, chocolate, oats and seeds while the doughnut is soft with a sweet and delicious Maple flavour.

💰 Approximate price: $8.22 CAD (both)

                                                         Timbits

Of course, you can not come to Canada and not try Timbits. I'm telling you now, they are addictive. Once you try them, you will always want to come back for another box.

Timbits are small round donuts typical and very known in Canada. You can find them in different flavours, chocolate, maple, chocolate with sugar, strawberry... You can order the box with all the flavours and decide which one is the best (I'm particularly crazy about the chocolate ones).

The good news is you can find them all over the country at any Tim Hortons place.

💰 Approximate price: $3.99 CAD (box with 10 timbits)
