Going to the Phi Phi Islands
Packing Essentials:
Expect to spend most of your time in the water or on the beach, so pack multiple swimsuits and comfy sandals that can be worn near the water. (Chacos are my trusted favorite!)
Think casual, light, and breathable clothes. Shorts, tank tops, and flowy dresses are your best friends in the tropical climate. This is a touristic area that allows for more freedom in what you wear, but if you visit locals then remember modesty guidelines.
Bring a dry bag for rainy season or the beach days and boat tours!
Remember to protect yourself from those intense Thai rays with plenty of sunscreen.**Reef-Safe Toiletries** Be eco-conscious and bring reef-safe sunscreen, shampoo, and soap to protect fragile marine life! Many tourists come to the Phi Phi islands for the snorkeling opportunities.
Getting Around:
Longtail Boats: These colorful boats are a common sight and can take you to nearby islands or snorkeling spots. Bargain a bit on the price before you hop in.
Walking: Most of the action is around Phi Phi Don, and it's a compact island, so you can explore on foot.
Rent a Scooter (most popular): If you're feeling adventurous, rent a scooter to explore the island at your own pace. Make sure to take pictures of it before to not get scammed on dammage!
Food & Drinks:
Phi Phi Don is known for its vibrant food scene. Here's where to satisfy your taste buds...
Street Food Stalls: Affordable and delicious Thai street food is a must-try. Pad Thai, green curry, and mango sticky rice – you can't go wrong.
Beachfront Bars: Enjoy a cold beer or cocktail while watching fire shows and listening to live music. Perfect casual evening vibes
Fresh Fruit Shakes: You'll find stalls selling fresh fruit shakes all over the island. They're a refreshing treat in the heat. My favorite is their coconut ice cream shakes.
Island Hopping:
Don't miss out on exploring the neighboring islands, this is easily booked for tours less than $60USD
Maya Bay (Phi Phi Leh): It's the star of the show, made famous by the movie "The Beach." Snorkel, swim, or simply take in the breathtaking beauty.
Bida Islands: Perfect for snorkeling and diving. Encounter colorful marine life and vibrant coral reefs.
Krabi Islands: view where original James Bond scenes were filmed!
The Phi Phi Islands are a casual traveler's dream come true. With their relaxed vibes, pristine beaches, and vibrant nightlife, these islands offer the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. So get ready for the trip of a lifetime. Enjoy every moment and savor the beauty of this tropical paradise!
