From Thessaloniki to Alexandroupoli: Must visit list

Thessaloniki is the second biggest city in Greece, after the capital of Athens. It is a top destination for food, nightlife and culture activities. 

In Thessaloniki you can find a variety of restaurants, bars, cafes etc. I am proposing one that I personally like. If you are a big group it may be good to book sometimes in advance. 

Ladadika area in Thessaloniki is the top spot for nightlife! Tarrace bars are a must during summer so here is one of my favorites: 

Halkidiki is the perfect summer destination near Thessaloniki. It can be super crowded so if you don't have enough time you can maybe skip it. 

Kavala is a cute city near the sea. Enjoy a walk at the city center and near the port, and be amazed by the castle view. 

About 20 minutes drive away from Kavala you can find the Archaelogical site of Philippi. You will be amazed!

In the city of Xanthi you will have a great walk at the old town. 

About 30 minutes drive away of Xanthi you can find the amazing Vistonida Lake. Walk throught the bridge and at the center of the lake you can visit a small church! 

Alexandroupoli is the most eastern city of Greece near the turkish boarders. Walk near the sea and enjoy some special local food!

Near Alexandroupolis you can find the Evros river. It has a variety of beautiful birds and other special animals. In order to visit by boat you will need a driver. Check below for information: 

If you want to see some wild birds like eagles you can visit the place below. However, the birds are not always visible and depends on the period of your visit. Hope you get lucky!

Lastly, visit Soufli. A beautiful village that produces amazing silk!

The Dadia-Lefkimi-Soufli Forest National Park is one of the most important protected areas at national, European and international scale. It is one of the first areas in Greece to be declared as protected since a great deal of flora and fauna species found in the Balkan Peninsula, Europe and Asia coexist here. The landscape mosaic formed by pine and oak forests, interrupted by clearings, pastures and fields is the ideal habitat for birds of prey. The National Park hosts three out of the four Vulture species of Europe (the Black Vulture, the Griffon Vulture and the Egyptian Vulture), while it is home to the only breeding population of Black Vultures in the Balkans.
