How to decide on where to stay? Bangkok Edition.

This is not fool-proof but it has been working out fine for me for most of my solo travels thus far. So I thought I share. Also, our four-day itinerary for some pure relaxation. Good food + shopping + massage and a little exploration.

A step to step guide on how I decided to stay... where we stayed. I'll make an example from my most recent girls trip to Bangkok.

So...I bought the ticket. Now what? Don't fret! I'll walk you through my thinking process.

First things first,

Find out what intrigued you. Here are the list of things I wanted to experience *the most* for our 5-day trip to Bangkok.

* FOOD!*

*SHOPPING!* - Siam area for ALL the shops, big and small. We easily spent a whole day here (also getting lost here).

If you did some research to get some local groceries or souvenirs (like spices, curry packets, dried mango, squid slices and some beauty products), this is the place to come!

The BIGGEST shopping mall in Bangkok, we had lunch at their indoor floating market. Definitely check that out (our local friend says it's much cleaner here).

Sunday Market - This is the place to hunt for basically... everything, from stones, sunglasses (we scored some really nice ones for $1USD a pair!) to stones? You get the gist!

Chatuchak Weekend Market

This is THE place to hunt for basically anything you want to find. But also street foods. Don't forget to bargain!

Since it's our first trip, we also found this official Bangkok Funpass! For a set price, you can choose 1 transportation ticket + 3 free activities out of the 10 + some discounts for malls.  For reference, we chose the BTS Rabbit transport card, Mahanakhon Sky Walk (definitely choose this because the ticket is VERY expensive!), foot massage and Hotel Indigo Afternoon tea for 2 people (super valuable in our opinion because the portion was huge!).  Definitely save us a lot of money here.

Second,

consider transport.  Even though GRAB (something like UBER) is pretty easy and affordable, We wanted to use as much public transport as possible, like BTS (Green Line) and the metro (Blue Line). So the second consideration would be to find a place (<10 mins) within any stop.  Since we chose to get the BTS Rabbit Card ( green line)  from the Bangkok Funpass. We tried to find a hotel on the green line.

Lastly,

we started searching for a hotel that satisfies all of our requirements.

We managed to narrow down our moving area along this area, but mainly along the BTS line, which is along Sathorn or Siam. Keep in mind, there are loads of hotels and hostels around. We found this one to suit us best and since it's a really new hotel, we decided to give it a try.

ASAI Bangkok Sathorn

The place is really quiet compared to Siam. There are several nice restaurants nearby, just walking distance to Mahanakhon Sky Walk. 15 minutes to money exchange and 5 minutes to BTS station. The room is a bit small in our opinion, but comfortable. We didn't get breakfast because there is absolutely no shortage of food in Thailand!
