Sorrento, Capri, Positano, Naples and The Amalfi Coast

Sorrento, Capri, Positano, Naples and The Amalfi Coast

The Points Plan
The views here were everything I was hoping for. Beautiful blue water and scenic coast lines. I absolutely under estimated how difficult, scary, but magically scenic driving through this part of Italy would be. If you are planning on driving, I would recommend the smallest car possible, planning your trips efficiently, and preparing to pay for parking.

Places to Stay

Residence Gocce Di Capri di Marco Cocurullo
@thepointsplan
Total Price: $2,107.86 2 bedrooms with 1 King, 1 Queen and a pull-out couch or 2 Queens and a pull-out couch Additional $10 fee/ day for a crib Pool on site, with an amazing view of the ocean and Capri island. In house restaurant and breakfast included (for a fee) Free parking This is about 3 miles outside of Sorrento so you would need to drive to town (the buses and taxis, per the reviews, are pricey and difficult to track down). This is a 3-star hotel, with mixed reviews. I would set expectations at a serviced AirBnb type feel.

@thepointsplan
Total Price: $2,724 (fully refundable before september 11) 2 Bedrooms, 2 King beds, 1 queen bed (in living room) Great reviews especially those traveling with family/ kids. Would still need a taxi to get to and from here to the marina Closer to the town of Capri

VRBO Panoramic house
@thepointsplan
Total Price: $1,679 3 bedrooms Beautiful view and location is within walking distance of the Marina and a grocery store You would likely still need a taxi from the Marina to the VRBO to get all of your stuff there, but after that, walkable or by bus which is across the street. Weather looks a bit colder in September, so a hot tub on the roof would be ideal.

Amalfi

Duomo di Amalfi
@thepointsplan
This cathedral is in the heart of town and is beautiful inside and out. It also offers a bit of shade if you're feeling a bit toasty. Sundays: 0730, 1000, 1115, and 1830

Sorrento

This is my favorite town in this area. The streets are a bit more pedestrian friendly with a wider variety of shops and restaurants to choose from. This is also where you'll catch the ferry to Capri and to the Amalfi Coast.

Ristorante Nastro D'Oro
@thepointsplan
Stumbled upon this place and was not dissapointed. We were struggling trying to figure what and how much to order for our party of 6 people so the waiter took over for us and we were not disappointed. Fresh and delicious fish (even for our friends that do not typically like fish), pasta, wine, bread, everything was delicious and the view was truly spectacular.

We missed this spot, but the reviews are great and if you're looking for a simple lunch, then this place has great sandwiches

Capri

Capri was undeniably beautiful, but we were just so hot in the September sun and crowds that it was difficult to fully enjoy. I would recommend packing water and snacks because, predictably, things are a bit pricey on the island. If you choose to stay in Capri, we've heard the locals don't venture out until after the last ferry leaves, which provides a much more enjoyable, quiet experience.

To book your ferry tickets you can use the Ferry Hopper app, then arrive at the port in Sorrento a bit early and ask them to print it for you.

We ended up walking the steep slope to the top of Capri and deeply regretted that decision. It was incredibly hot and still up the steep steps to the top. There is a funicular available too.

Tizzano's kiosk (lemon ice cream)
@thepointsplan
You've got to try a lemon ice while on Capri. Famous for their lemons and a perfect, if not very temporary, souvenir. We didn't go to this spot in particular, but it has great reviews!

Canfora Capri Sandals
@thepointsplan
Legend has it this is where Jacky Kennedy had custom sandals made while she visited Capri. You'll notice plenty of other stores selling custom sandals. Fun to look at, but in my opinion, not very comfortable.

Instagram famous, Italian cooking class. I tried weeks in advance to get a reservation and kept checking back for cancellations, without luck. I would recommend making a reservation well in advance if you can!

There are so many cute shops along the streets here! The drive in was pure magic and slightly terrifying, but well worth it. Grab a spot in a parking garage, and meander down the winding streets.

Naples

L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele
@thepointsplan
Eat. Pray. Love. Pizza Was it worth it? I think so! The line will be long. It doesn't matter how early or what time you arrive. Proceed straight to the front of the line and grab a number from the person who sits in front of the door, then watch the numbers displayed above the door to wait for our turn to go into the restaurant. If you think take-away will go faster, guess again. While we were there, the take-away line took even longer. There are only 3-4 menu options, I would suggest keeping it simple and getting the original margherita pizza. Let me know if you go and which famous person sat at your table!

Pompeii

I've always wanted to visit Pompeii and I was not disappointed! It was truly a unique experience and I highly recommend the tour to get the most out of it. Make sure you eat well before hand, and bring water with you. The restaurant options are scarce.

Take the Train from Sorrento to Pompeii. You can use the Trainline app to purchase the ticket.
