Manuel Antonio to San Jose | Costa Rica - A Backpacker’s Guide
Step 1: Manuel Antonio to Quepos
The bus to Quepos runs along the main road of Manuel Antonio and you can get on at the point which suits you best. It won’t stop anywhere on the road like a lot of Central American buses so best to ask the reception of your accommodation where the closest stop is so it doesn’t drive past you. It runs every 15 minutes and costs ₡380, depending where you start you should reach “Terminal de Buses de Quepos” in about 20 minutes.
Step 2: Quepos to San José
From “Terminal de Buses de Quepos” you can catch a direct bus to San José. This bus runs semi regurlary so you can leave when you’re ready rather than early in the morning as you need to on other public transport routes in Costa Rica. This bus runs at 4am, 6am, 7:30am, 9:30am, 12pm, 1pm, 2:30pm, and 5pm.
This bus cost ₡4340 and you buy your ticket from the office at the station rather than from the driver.
It is a coach so you can put your main bag under the bus and they will give you a ticket to collect it at the end. Keep any other bags on you lap rather than in the overheads as thefts do occur.
You should arrive to San José in about 3.5 hours to “Bus Terminal - Tracopa Ltda”.
This route is current as of April 2024 and should also work in reverse.
