Day 1 - Phoenix to Flagstaff

After an early morning flight, our 1st stop in Arizona was the State Capitol to get outside and stretch our legs. Very interesting Memorials and artifacts outside of the Capitol - especially the U.S.S. Arizona anchor, memorializing the sinking at Pearl Harbor

Montezuma Castle National Monument

From Phoenix, we headed north to start the road trip around Arizona. Montezuma's Castle was another opportunity for the family to get outside and stretch our legs. The kids completed the Junior Ranger Program to earn their Badges, and it was very interesting to see the homes built into the rock

We enjoyed some more hiking on the Bell Rock Trail - beautiful scenery and several different types of cacti. This was our last stop before our 1st night in Flagstaff, where we visited some family members

Flagstaff was where we spent our 1st night - we stayed with some relatives who had 2 adorable cats! If not visiting relatives, I would recommend driving a little further and staying closer to Petrified Forest National Park
