 If you do need to reach somewhere further, taxis are readily available and fairly cheap. There are many taxi companies in the city but the two most trusted and reliable companies are Mai Linh and Vinasun. 

If you have mobile data, download transportation apps such as Grab or Gojek to book a ride to your destination. Booking a ride after shopping ensures that you can get a larger vehicle to fit your shopping bags. However, depending on traffic and time of the day, it may be difficult to get a ride but if you are lucky, it could cost cheaper than a taxi ride!

Be aware of taxi scams and other companies with logos that look similar to Mai Linh and Vinasun. Mai Linh and Vinasun use fare by metre. 

Be sure to have small cash ready for payment and the address of your destination, preferably in Vietnamese. Take a screenshot of or show the address from Google maps.

With heavy traffic all around, walking is probably the fastest way to get around the city centre if you are staying in District 1 (Quận 1).

The local currency is Vietnamese Dong (VND). While USD is usually accepted for payment, be aware that you will likely receive change in VND. It is therefore highly recommended that you exchange your cash to the local currency although the zeros (0) in the currency can be confusing.

Exchange a small amount of VND before arriving or at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport to get you by upon arrival such as paying for the taxi into the city. Once you are in the city, exchange your money into VND at the local banks. Most major currencies are accepted.
